With headlines like, ‘The Most Exciting Show at New York Fashion Week‘ and ‘New Collection Upends Everything You’ve Ever Known About Men’s Fashion’; my expectations were high but after seeing the show in question, I was severely disappointed.
Apparently this show was one of the hottest tickets in town during New York’s Fashion week. The new Women’s line disguised as a new Men’s line comes from the mind of designer Alejandro Gomez Palomo who described his work as “genderless”.
When I read and see things like this my “bullshit” detector goes off. I considered doing a write up about this very same subject last year when I saw a video of a genderless fashion show that featured both male and female models. I noticed that clothes the males were wearing looked more feminine and the clothes the females were wearing looked more masculine.
So basically what “genderless” means for fashion designers is just dressing males as females and females as males and the fashion elites will be frothing from the mouth. As one feminist blogger put it;
“…all about destroying the idea that clothing is somehow gendered…now is the time to rethink gender! This designer proves once and for all that fashion is a political space, but in the most beautiful sort of way…and perfect for basically any and everyone.”
Nothing says genderless like wearing dresses and high heels…da fuck outta here. Check out the fashion show below.

No, no, no.
This is nothing new or exciting. It’s just men wearing women’s clothing.
It’s always the same when folks are trying to break gender constructs in fashion:
-Trying to redefine men’s/women’s clothes for the opposite gender.
-puting men in women’s clothes
I have yet to see anything that is new and innovative that could truly be called genderless…Something that is far different from the societal fashion constructs.
Don't you ever post no foolishness like this!
The guys are in haute drag, period.
Just about everytime something claims to be genderless, it's actually just feminine.
Damn! Time is really flying!-it is Halloween already!
Not only is it all just men in women's clothing, nearly all of the clothing is ugly as f#ck. It does not matter if a man is wearing it, fugly feminine stuff is still fugly feminine stuff. What is next?-when a guy is wearing a skirt it becomes a skhimt? smh.
I saw only two outfits(2 dresses)that looked good-but just not with the men wearing them. JMHO.
And what is exactly wrong with having genders? Why the need to 'erase gender' or 'blend gender'? Funny how 'blending gender' and 'genderless' basically comes down to making everything some form of feminine. How about getting really political and putting some hard core bull-d%kes in frilly satin blouses and mini-skirts and see how that flys-"Oh no! that would be denigrating their sexuality and freedom of expression!!!!!!"
Isn't "Genderless Men's Clothing" an oxymoron?
THANK YOU!

Note to designers: people will accept fashions that bend like a palm tree, not break like an oak tree.
Notice that when women fashion designers borrow elements from masculine/male fashions, the core feminine/female aesthetic doesn't get obliterated. You still read a sexy WOMAN

Try to be "genderless and revolutionary" with men's fashion all you want, but in the end all people see is

I am in no way a fashionista but there are definitely ways to add feminine touches to men's clothing just like how masculine touches are done with women's clothing. I just think that all those looks in the fashion show look crazy.
@Kouncelor said it best.
There is a such thing as men's clothing and women's clothing. I guess the same people who in don't believe there is no gender sexuality believe there is no gender in clothing. Clothes is clothes right?
I think it is weird to equate or assign gender to pieces of fabric pieced together. The only reason we have men's clothing and women's clothing is because the fashion industry has told us what is what.
Haven't you all seen Devil Wears Prada?

With all that being said, Fashion shows and events like fashion week are stupid because they only feature clothing and designs that NO ONE WILL EVER WEAR outside of that fashion week runway.
Completely disagree.
We (societies, civilizations) have always distinguished and had differentiating garbs between males and females. From natural materials like, shells, feathers, animal skins, to vegetables (penis gourds) male and female dress has been distinctive to a gender before and through out a "fashion industry".
The industry capitalized on the distinctions.
I see your point. I think I am arguing that why does any of this matter. "Genderless Clothing" is ONLY a thing that exists in fashion industries. This is not a thing that we deal with in real life. No one actually wears these clothes. They are talked about on website's like this and in magazines but I don't think it is really a thing that people are trying to push for mass consumption if we are being honest.
There is genderless clothing. How about a T shirt and jeans? If you see a guy wearing those, so what. A woman wearing the same, so what?-right? Same with other things like sweats and polo shirts, cargo shorts, etc. These clothing items are just not 'high fashion'-but are comfortable or practical and that is why they are worn by so many people-male, female, or other.
Ummm…right.
If you wanna wear a skirt, knock yourself out. But at least go all the way and shave dem scrawny legs.
