Godzilla

Here are the hottest, most interesting trailers (for movies, television shows or anything else) that we saw this week.

1. Godzilla (Film)

This looks to be the film to finally erase the horrible taste of the 1998 American remake of Godzilla from our mouths. Not only does it feature pretty great special effects and a solid cast, it was also directed by filmmaker Gareth Edwards (creator of the indie scifi film Monsters).

2. Black Boots (Web Series)

While this new web series from the FREEFALL team might be just as melodramatic and boring as all of their other attempts at filmmaking, the trailer is still interesting and qualifies as Kush. The acting may be questionable but they always find very good looking black men to spout memorized clunky dialogue and rarely used SAT words.

Either way, good luck to them and I’m glad they’re finally finding success after nearly 7 years making content for the web (since My Brother’s Keeper).

3. The Raid 2: Berandal (Film)

YES!!!!!!!! The sequel to one of my all-time favorite films is coming! If you’re an action movie fan and you haven’t seen the Indonesian film THE RAID: REDEMPTION you are missing out. From beginning to end its is one of the most tense, thrilling and adrenaline pounding films you will ever see.

The movie involves a police tactical team going under the radar to raid a high rise public housing building to take down a drug kingpin. They must fight their way up to the penthouse to make the arrest. Its an action feast for the eyes.

This teaser trailer for the sequel looks to be broader in scope with just as much, if not more, action. Can’t wait.

4. Jupiter Ascending (Film)

The creators of The Matrix, Lana and Andy Wachowski are back to their SciFi roots with this new epic space opera, Jupiter Rising. While I’m excited about this and will be in the theater to see it on opening weekend, I can help but feel a little skeptical that it will be won’t be any more than visual style over substance.

The trailer is so chock full of stunning visuals intermixed with bland “She’s the One, we must protect her” tripe that I feel like I’ve seen it all before in a bad Riddick sequel. Hopefully my low expectations will be proven to be unwarranted.

5. Last Letter (Film)

Last Letter is a new black indie film directed by Paul D Hannah. While the straight-to-DVD film looks lackluster, I do appreciate the attempt to create something different than the typical black relationship movie clones we see every year.

However this one features Omari Hardwick, one of the most handsome black actors in the game (especially those with a full beard). I could watch this man read bad poetry and still love it (and he actually does just that on the TV One spoken word poetry show “Verses and Flow”).

6. Edge of Tomorrow (Film)

More Science Fiction!!! (Yes, I’m a nerd) Tom Cruise is back in the science fiction game after the disappointing performance of Oblivion. This one looks to have 1000% times more action (and characters) than his last movie, but the story may prove to be just as familiar and derivative. We’ve kinda seen the whole “Reliving the same day until you get it right” storyline repeatedly since Bill Murray did it in Groundhog Day.

Who cares. I’ll still be in the theater to see shit get blow’d up on screen, along with every other scifi action fan in the country.
