We are now learning that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell gave only a warning to an AFC East player who was detained over the July 4th weekend after a violent altercation with another male at his home. These new allegations come fresh on the heels of the current controversy surrounding Commissioner Goodell and former Baltimore Raven, Ray Rice’s domestic abuse scandal. TMZ released new video showing the now famous elevator altercation between Ray and his then fiancé in its entirety. Reports now confirm the commissioner or at the least NFL’s head office had the full video in April, which was before a two game suspension was leveled against Rice.
Now we are getting word through anonymous NFL sources and confirmation with the Miami Dade County Police department that officers were called to a residence of an AFC East player in the Coconut Grove community on Saturday July 5th around 2am. Police stated the male victim appeared to have bruising and abrasions to his head, face, neck and elbows. The unnamed player was detained on the scene, questioned but not arrested due to the male victim not being able to give a proper or coherent statement. Police sources stated this was due to the victim being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The victim was taken to and area hospital and released the following Monday.
Around July 9th lawyers for the alleged victim contacted the NFL offices to file a formal complaint and request an investigation. On July 14th NFL representatives apparently interviewed the player at length to gather additional details. Sources close the investigation state when the player was asked if the alleged male victim was his partner or lover, the player responded, “well, we just kick-it and fool around from time to time.” When asked what happened on the night of July 5th the unidentified player stated, “they were just horsing around and due to him (the alleged victim) being intoxicated things got out of hand.”
When inquired have things “gotten out of hand before or if he ever had previously struck the alleged victim out of anger ”, the player responded frankly, “Yeah. My daddy said never put your hands on a woman but he didn’t say anything like that about men. I mean ole boy a dude, he aint no female, so I feel like when he gets outta line, imma beat that ass to calm the situation down.”
Due to the victim not pressing charges for the July 5th incident and only filing a complaint, Commissioner Roger Goodell only gave the player a warning due to a lack of evidence and what he considers hearsay. Sources do say the commissioner was very stern and advised the player to “never, under any circumstances put his hands on a woman.”

So, I’m assuming this is what you held back from tweeting.
But at the end of the day, even w video of the 1 dude getn beat down, I wouldn’t expect the punishment to be very severe at all, simply because it’s between 2 men.
Pretty much. It would be ‘dude got his azz beat.’ Assault at most.
Well, unless the victim went with gay bashing which turns it into a hate crime. But then, if you’re gay or ‘just kickin’ it’ then that kinda goes out the window I would think.
Yeah,i gotta agree with the comments below. No one will care that a dude got beat,or that it was an act of domestic violence.Everyone, including people who don’t even care about sports, probably just wanna know which player is sleeping with a man.
Ding ding ding!!!!
I mean, it’s natural to be curious abt which player it is, but the sad part is that his being gay would trump the fact that his big football playin ass beat the brakes off of sum1, as far as the media would be concerned.
I’m sure a lot of gay guys wanna know if he’s attractive, which will override the severity of the action for some of them( something women are sometimes guilty of). And the straight women wanna know if it’s the rich star athlete they’d be chasing,so they can chew him out for being DL . Then the media gets the sensationalized story like you say.
The interwebz would explode with queries for whoever it is.
Then people would be trying to figure out how they met, how long they been ‘kicking it’, who the victim was, who the player was with previously, looking at photos trying to see who he may have been smashing etc. Then of course, someone is going to say “I knew it all along.”
People will most certainly lose focus in this scandal. The fact that the man was hurt, and that it wasn’t properly condemned will be totally over-shadowed in the ensuing gossip
The really sad part is, if it were a domestic violence incident involving two men I’m not sure how many people would see it as domestic violence at all.
Um, y’all do realize that this story is made up, right? It’s clearly satire, but interesting to think about nonetheless
Yeah…but I guess we did get a little bit carried away, because no one would care if this was a real thing.
I take that back.People will care, but they won’t care for the right reasons.
Yep. Kinda like what happened with Kevin Clash. Even though he was cleared, people were flipping out at first over the allegations. The appearance of the alleged victims through sympathy for them out of the window. Especially when more and more were popping up and it appeared as if he had a ‘type’
I really don’t understand all the sensationalism surrounding the NFL. Football is a violent sport, Football players have been known to engage in violent activity both domestic violence and assault and battery on other individuals. 24-hour news cycles need this “juicy” lowest common-denominator reporting to sell news papers and get pick to click websites.
I think a big part of why its recently spiked in the media is simply because recent events show how often this gets swept under the rug. As soon as the NFL got slightly more transparent (which wasn’t by their choice), we have a new domestic violence / child abuse case every week now. Granted, the media has a sensational bias to virtually everything, but this is newsworthy because its the first time in a long time that these family-violence crimes are consistently seeing the light of day.
