We’re reaching back in time remembering a couple of music videos to make you say,
“OH Snap…That Was My Jam!”

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!
"Hanging on a String" is my all time favorite 80s R&B jam! Sweet, sweet Reagan era childhood, lol. That song has the same effect on me as "Pop Goes the Weasel" does on Curly Howard. True story: I once walked out on a dinner party and insulted a friend's wife years ago because she said it was a stupid song ("You're wife is an idiot"; puts on hat, slams door…)
All three members were sexy to me…and you can tell from the video below which one @Nick Delmacy would have went for (lol); this is the very, very, close second song of theirs for me, next to "Hanging" (Mr. Bachelor)
Then I found out there was a whole album I never heard of theirs on Spotify that was never released in the U.S. (squeals). This was the original album that "Hanging" appeared on

You could play "spot the black guy" all day long with 80s Brit Rock, not just the Thompson Twins. The Brits had an early affirmative action program before MTV (lol):
Jo Boxers. The lead singer is actually from @ColumbusGuy 's neck of the woods (born and raised in Ohio).
Haircut 100 (aka "Who the hell tucks a cardigan sweater INSIDE trousers")
Big Country
Fine Young Cannibals (okay, half-black guy)
Simple Minds. They didn't let us in the movie, but we were there anyway (lol)
The Beat (aka The English Beat). A band of twenty-somethings with a 50-year-old Jamaican saxophone soloist. No gay-ish age hangups there. I always laughed at Eddie Murphy's "Delirious" monologue where he made fun of Courtney Cox's "white girl dancing" in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" video. Did he know a Jamaican-Brit brother was doing that dance years before she came along? (Ranking Roger, the skinny brother with the hat). The band split up and half formed General Public (Tenderness) and the other half The Fine Young Cannibals
The Specials / Fun Boy Three. Always loved their version better than the Go-Go's version (the singer is actually the co-writer of the song).
And my man, Don Letts, Big Audio Dynamite; the group formed by The Clash's Mick Jones after the punk group broke up (remember Neneh Cherry? She's in the background dancing)
Speaking of background dancers, look for Ice-T and P-Diddy doing their "I'm Tupac in Digital Underground Days" thing
Yep, love of the Pet Shop Boys was my first inkling that I was "putter in the rough" lol. "West End Girls" is one of those songs that takes me back to a very specific time in my youth. But this is my favorite song of theirs (about coming out of the closet)
Favorite Sheila E. song (God she is sooooo SEXY). The female-loving side of me is strictly Nick Delmacy-ish (lol)
And how could y'all forget THE 80S GAY ANTHEM?
I loved that song, didn't know why. Then one of the first openly gay dudes I ever met explained the lyrics.
"ohhhhh…THAT'S what it means?!?" lol
Another pre-pride 80s Pride song. From the lead singer of the the punk rock group The Buzzcocks, revealing his bisexuality
Alright, off to work. Enjoy, gentlemen!!
Im not gonna inundate this post with 30 videos (a lot of us on here are from the same "era"and have the same tastes, so gotta give others the chance to post LOL) so here's one "Rock", one Rap, one R&B, and one movie trailer…
HOMOSAPIEN! lol I could not believe it when they played that on MTV! lol. The gayest thing they ever played-the guy oozes gay lol.
My brother and his wife's 'song' is Fine Young Cannibals 'You Drive Me Crazy'.
Yeah I can't help but like the song…danced my ass off to it back in the day(and back before Pete Burns completely lost his mind). Plus when they are swinging the flags it reminds me of the one time I was on a float in the Pride March/Parade and had a huge rainblow flag that big and was trying to swing it like that. lol
I loved those damn stuffed animal pants..such a fun song.
I don't care what anyone thinks…I always like this one for personal reasons:
liked this one too.
for @itsumoconfused :
He was so hot in this. And the video is so completely 80's lol
HE STARTED IT! (points to Octavius)
Lol, it's actually fun, but I did warn y'all in my status update! I learn so much newer music from @DreG , @NikR and the Younger set, I figure we can let them sit at the grown folks' holiday dinner table for a spell.
I was a horny repressed black gay kid so I tended to prefer "jams" that had attractive guys in the music videos. Here are a few songs that got heavy rotation in my CD player:
Hi-Five: Kissing Game….Lead Singer Tony Thompson's lips, though… :whew: (Rest in Peace, Tony)
H-Town: Knockin The Boots…I wanted to smash all three of these dudes :feedme: (Rest in Peace, Dino)
Shai: If I Ever Fall In Love….Before porn, I had a VCR and BET's Video Soul…this one was def in rotation. :shaq:
Silk: Freak Me…Sweaty Shirtless Black Men…I used to re-watch the video way too much…LAWD! :lawd:
Usher: You Make Me Wanna…This is around the time that my infatuation with Usher grew from Crush to Stalker. :mjcry1:
112 ft Zane: Anywhere…All of them, yes please… :rejoice:
Donnell Jones: Where I Wanna Be….I can't lie, tho…Donnell Jones was my "around the way" bae…:nerd:
Yeah, man. I was never a big fan of Slow Jams but Shai definitely was a big part of my rotation. Back then I could actually sing the song (before Mr Newport 100s), now I can only hum it at best, and even that's a catastrophe LMAO
I'm a fan of all music so no problem with slow jams. Perhaps another thread? Ock could put bluegrass on here and I'd have something to contribute lol.
At least Nick was conscious of his desires, I was in my "everybody can see I play for the other team but me" phase. Which probably explains why I subconsciously liked videos of all the pretty boys whose clothes closets and dressers I wanted to raid:
Y’all gone stop playing up in here!!!!
The 80’s & 90’s ruled!
Freddie Jackson- Jam Tonight – YouTube Madonna – Borderline Y'all gone stop playing up in here!!!! The 80's & 90's ruled!
The good thing is that there is a lot of feedback and participation for this post and thread. :jawalrus:
The bad thing is I had to delete some of the videos I had on my list for future Throwback Thursdays. :sucka:
Guess that means I will have to work harder to find some other great old school jams for everyone to enjoy!:nerd:
I edited mine too, hope that helps. I just put the links as plaintext. But was glad at the responses, there wasn't a song I didn't remember or enjoy!
Kudos to "If I Had No Loot." Need to make that my phone answering message for friends and family (grrrr)
Yo! This brought back memories, it was dope that y’all brought back all that new wave ISH from the eighties, that’s whazup!
I still can't believe the Tom Tom Club is on here. Genius of Love! lol. @DreG how do you even know of this song? I also like the Gap Band.
Why not some more(until Ocky starts a new monthly thread for music of something…)
A little older..and unknown.
And not quite as as old (and everyone at the dive gay bar would get on and crowd the small dance floor to line dance to this lol)..yes I had to post it.
Here are a few (and just a few as I'll be coming back to this later):
1) Snoop Dogg ~ Ain't No Fun ft. Nate Dogg, Warren G., and Kurupt. The song is misogynistic and sexist af, but that beat and chorus make you subconsciously nod your head.
2) Des'ree ~ You Gotta Be. I remember this from a PBS commercial back in the 90s. I feel so blessed to grow up in the 90's and early 2000s.
If songs three and four were never played at a family reunion, your great-uncle's cook-out, or a relative's wedding you ain't black.
3) The S.O.S. Band ~ Take Your Time (Do It Right).
4) Carl Carlton ~ She's a Bad Mama Jama.
…and it's always the alcoholic, drug-addicted, body built by Play-doh aunt that just has to be the one to bust a move to this song.

And with that, I'm off to work…
