Using Products with Nonoxynol-9 Can Increase HIV Infection

Duh! I know some of you may be thinking after reading this post’s title; that Nonoxynol-9 can increase HIV infection.

Well guess what? My late to the table ass didn’t know because back when the major condom makers decided to stop using Nonoxynol-9 in their lubricants and condoms products back in 2005; I wasn’t really having any sex (basically abstaining, outside of the occasional jack off session), so the news past me by.  Well I figured, “Hey I’m a pretty well informed guy, so if I didn’t know maybe others don’t know” and so you have the birth of this post.

I remember years when I was becoming homo-sexually active; I was told to always look for condoms and lube that had the spermicide nonoxynol-9 present.  Why?… because nonoxynol-9 helped reduce the risk of contracting chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV by killing the microorganisms that causes the diseases.

WRONG!…not only is this not fully true nonoxynol-9 increases the risk of contracting these are other STD’s; how?

Nonoxynol-9 is a detergent, even though it’s great for killing sperm it is also great at damaging and deteriorating the cell membrane lining of the rectum making you more susceptible and vulnerable to attack and infection from STD’s.

This is why in 2005 condom manufactures discontinued using Nonoxynol-9 in most of their products.  Nonoxynol-9 is still used as a spermicide in a lot of over the counter products like sponges, foams, and gels to prevent pregnancy; but pregnancy is something that gay men do not have to worry about.

So if you didn’t know…any condom is better than no condom; however you should not use any products containing nonoxynol-9 during sexual intercourse and especially anal intercourse.

So Here’s To Many Happy Fuck Sessions!  Have Fun and Play Safe!
