How great is this?
Last Thursday night, military mom Lt. Col. Cotina Jenkins-Sellers who had been station in Kuwait, stepped off of the plane and decided to surprise her 13 year old son, Derrick Jenkins, while playing at a Legacy Middle School basketball game.
He hadn’t seen her in over 8 months and had no idea she was even scheduled to return home. The coaches for both teams arranged it so that a fake technical foul would be called on Derrick’s team, sending him to the free throw line.
As he shot (and missed) both baskets, his mother crept up behind and whispered, “Aw, that’s okay Derrick.” His reaction to seeing her is priceless.
A local San Antonio, TX news station caught the whole thing in camera (see video below).

I saw this video yesterday and seeing the response from her son was priceless. I really feel for those families who have to go through this and I know it’s not easy when young kids have to cope with their parents being away for extended periods of time. I remember when my dad was in the military and he had to go to Korea for a while which was difficult for me, my mom, and my sister. This was a awesome surprise for the little dude, it was great to watch this moment unfold.
I love watching videos like this. Cornball-ish, I know, but it’s great to see the members of military families reunited..
Awwww if that doesn’t warm your heart you may want to see a doctor because you may be heartless.
This was kinda awesome. Im glad that the local news thought it was a special enough moment to cover it.
such a wonderful video.
As a military member i can say that these always get to me to see those reunions.
Shit, made me cry… That was beautiful.
