Who Killed James Mayberry?

By Ocky Williams | Posted Jan 15 2014 | 11 Comments

Banner1The body of James Mayberry was found nude in his bedroom with multiple stabs wounds.  A couple of blocks away, a resident finds a bag with bloody knives and a used condom. The hunt is on to find the killer.  Watch the video to find out who killed James Mayberry, followed by the thought provoking commentary.

It’s great that the murderer was brought to justice.  I’m sure this provided some resolution to the victim’s family, friends and the community even though it doesn’t bring James Mayberry back.  Mr. Mayberry didn’t deserve to be on the receiving end of this violent attack; however his actions and choices did play a part. Why did Mr. Mayberry have so much contact and sexual encounters with men whom were violent ex-convicts and felons?

Unfortunately there are many older gay men out there that play this game.  They seek out these ex-cons and develop a sort of “John / Prostitute” relationship.  The older man (The John) is usually established, has a secure job, a home and other attractive resources.  The (Prostitute) is usually younger, a street thug, drug dealer, an ex-con, ex-felon or parolee.  The ex-con (The Prostitute) is usually not secure, meaning they don’t have stability in their life.  They often times use men and women for money, food, transportation and shelter. They usually can’t or don’t maintain a decent job because of their past record and outlook.  Many older gay men seek them out and consider them “Trade”. They will give them money, food and shelter in exchange for sex and companionship, thus both participants gain something for their services.

Mr. Mayberry may have been an all-around, good natured, well liked man; however it seemed like at times he went after certain types of men, the “Trade”.  Word will get out that an individual has resources and is willing to part with them in exchange for ex-jailhouse dick.  In this case the killer actually spoke to the victim while he was still in prison. How did the victim and the killer know each other in the first place?  Were they pin-pals or known of each other through mutual ex-con acquaintances?  I once read a book called Fish: A Memoir of a Boy in a Man’s Prison.  In it, some inmates were having a conversation about what they will do once they are released or paroled.  To summarize, one prisoner stated he will seek out a “queen” he knows on the outside and he will be their stud.  That way he doesn’t have to work but just has to provide sexual services and companionship because the queen will give him money and supply room and board.  This is a very serious and dangerous game that these men (The Johns) are willingly to play.

Why are so many gay men (regardless of age) attracted to criminals, drug dealers, thugs, ex-cons and felons? Is it a thrill or simply being intrigued by the “bad boy” image?  Is the thinking “I can change/fix him” or it is something else?  Are older gay men of the mindset that because of “ageism” within the gay community, that ex-cons are the only companionship they can get?

Feel free to share your thoughts.

I’m late to this post but I have a friend that seems to be stuck in this type of pattern. He is in his 50’s and always seems to have a young thug living with him. We all know that the chances of a 20 something or even a 30 something dude being sexually attracted to a 50+ man are remote. The scary thing with his current live in is I know he was in prison for 5 yrs for beating a dude half to death. scary but as we all know, most people have the ” you can’t tell me nut’n” mind set. I’m sure “john” feels love for this dude that is just using him.

Older men who get into these situations with younger guys or “trade” have what they identify as the “Peter Pan Syndrome”. They don’t want to grow up nor do they want to form healthy adult relationships with another adult. They need an advantage(money, shelter status when it comes to getting their guys. I think it’s sad.

Such a sad story. Its unfortunate that he looked for companionship in the wrong places. Too often in our youth we out there ” turning up” and not trying to build real relationships and then 1 day you wake up and you are 50 years old and nothing has changed about your life.

This is disturbing on so many levels. It’s sad to see how gay men, especially black gay men will degrade themselves just for a piece of dick when it comes from so-called “trade”. It reminds me of the level that some black women will stoop to just get their thing bashed up real good by the same type of men. Pathetic.

    1. Uhhh, what u know about the ID channel, @Ocky ??? Leme find out, lol

    2. Ima need u to get some tea n cough drops, lol!

But for real, this is a sad case. That whole ‘scene’ of older gay men, overcompensating some dude for his ‘companionship’, is really unfortunate. Luckily, we dont hear about it ending in murder very often (by ratio, at least) but I dont think its goin away anytime soon.

Like u mentioned, ‘ageism’ is a part of what leads to this, and many other, risky behaviors. However, it’s kind of a continuance, (aside from the possibly violent ex-con, and financial factors, for the most part), of what young men also do w all of the apps n sites.

Eventually, everyone will reach the point where their (updated) shirtless/ass/dick shots wont make that oft-sought after temporary companionship so readily available.

I really tried not to laugh given the subject matter, but it was pretty funny. You should just do a series of vids with you coughing over the dialog

OMFG…I feel like I need to re-record this. The software I was using I completely forgot about it recording me (my dumb ass). There is good and bad in everything and this gives me a great idea. Thanks gents.

So disturbing. This happened to one of my nationally prominent frat brothers. Something about the “Trade” that makes people lose their minds.
