Many have said that Pro wrestling is one of the most homoerotic sports on television.  Why?  Because it consists of muscular oiled up men in tights acting out drama filled scripts like a daytime soap opera.  Now gay fans will have even more of a reason to watch.

WWE star Darren Young gave an impromptu interview with a TMZ cameraman while at the baggage claim in Los Angeles Airport LAX.

The cameraman asked Young about his opinions concerning gay wrestlers, asking if “a gay wrestler could be successful within the WWE.”

The response;

“Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay and I’m happy. I’m very happy.”

Say what?

The star was asked if he was officially coming out and how he thought his fellow wrestlers would take the news.

“I guess if you want to call it coming out, I really don’t know what to say it is, but I’m just letting you know that I’m happy with who I am, I’m comfortable with myself, and I’m happy to be living the dream,” he continued. “To be honest with you, I’m happy with myself, and some people might not like it and some people will like it. But I’m here to please myself; I’m here to be happy. It’s very important I’m happy with myself.”

The WWE organization has released a statement saying it’s, “proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality. We will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar.  In fact, Darren will be participating in one of our Be A Star anti-bullying rallies in Los Angeles to teach children how to create positive environments for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation.”

WWE Champion John Cena stated, “Oh wonderful!  I know Darren personally. Darren’s a great guy. That’s a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it.”

Cena says he’s proud of his friend especially because he has a brother who is gay and he knows how tough it can be to come out.

Like Young stated, it’s very important to be happy with yourself.  Congrats to you Sir for living in your truth AND looking good while doing it.
