Surely with all the talk about the new Stingray, we completely forgot about this; We should all be ashamed!
Just imagine if you would, a car built by a luxury automobile manufacturer that is part hybrid and part conventional. It rides on a platform that is almost compact in size, yet is one of the best balanced cars on the road. It far outclasses any other hybrid on the road today due to its technology and propulsion system.
A car that has been selected as the Motor Trend Car of the Year and the European Car of the year…Enthusiast revolted! This is the very same platform and propulsion system that operates the Chevrolet Volt that is now running in the all new and long awaited Cadillac ELR. Remember when GM used to make it a habit of introducing a “Hott Ass Concept”, and then watering down the final product so much that it was another vehicle altogether.
“We don’t want to offend anybody”. Those were some of the words most often said by the Old GM brass. Man, did they make me sick. Why even build a great concept and then build a different production model. What a great opportunity for them to shine and stand out but what a damn disappointment. Thank God that old ass board, and the old ass way of thinking has been thrown out of the ballpark at General Motors as we welcome their new efforts.
As anyone can see, there is quite an effort here to stay true to the hard work put into the concept, as shown here by the 2009 Cadillac Converj (pictured below). They even stayed true to the 20″ rims and tires that actually take this baby to another level.
With a few more horses added to the power plant, the Cadillac sits atop this platform with authority. Great to see that they finally made a Hybrid car that doesn’t scream hybrid (in its appearance) everywhere you go. This car’s grille comes standard with active shutters that close at highway speeds in order to further enhance the aerodynamics.
Cadillac made every effort to stay true to current Cadillac themes as far as the interior and exterior is concerned. Choices for the interior include wood, leather, piano black, and carbon fiber that can be built to your specifications, from classic to sporty. All instrumentation is LCD, and touch screen. It all makes for what is already perceived as a current Cadillac. Even CUE technology is available.
Cadillac’s boomerang headlamps (like the tail-lamps) will be full on LED’s.
I’ll TAKE IT!
Arriving in 2014, the base price for the ELR was originally set for about $72,000. I’m glad that somebody came to their senses and now the talk is about $48,000 to $60,000. I’m also hoping that the old GM doesn’t rear its ugly head in the pricing dept and price itself right out of the margin. All and all, I think an already great platform has been made better with the adaptation of a new body, some sporty shocks, a great interior and some hot wheels! Just watch the pricing Cadillac, and if you do it right, they’ll just “keep a knockin”.

I gotta say that this is a nice ride. Has the gangsta edge but yet classy.
I’m more of a luxury car guy though… Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Audi. 😉
Thanks for your comment African King.. ..oops Euro King (Benz, BMW, Audi) Glad you like it.
This car was based on the chevy Volt’s platform, and it was excellently executed. Can’t wait to see it on the road.
Thanks for the comment Black Pegasus.. I can’t wait to see that joint either. I’m going to be waiting outside of the Cadillac dealership like a stalker..
I wanna see this on the ROAD..
Whats up Drewski.. First, thanks for your comment and second, just head to Los Angeles Cali playa. Jay Leno already has the first one and they don’t fully go into production until later this year.(jay leno garage cadillac elr) youtube.. Check it out.
This is a nice vehicle, but I must say living in Germany for most of my life if it isn’t an Audi (specifically that R8) I’m not feeling it LOL
The Audis of late have been catching my eye. The S7 in particular, but I won’t care to own one because of the reliability issues of Audis and the maintenance costs. I’m considering an all new BMW model that will arrive this winter, but I will try for a lease before buying it. I’m suspect of ALL german cars based on experiences from both family members and friends.
No doubt Black Pegasus. One reason you find them at around 40,000, 60,000 miles is because the lease is up and the problems have started or are about to start.. That S7 is Hott az a Muthaf%#*a, but if you get one just buy the extended warranty babe. It’s worth the peace of mind mos def.. I wish you luck on the BMW babe..
Hey Michael.. Guten Abend. Deuces ..!
The ELR looks very classy the designers did a fine job in differentiating it from The Chevrolet Volt & Opel Ampera.
No doubt Cyrus, It’s hot like fire.. But like I commented on an earlier post, if that $65,000 price tag is gonna go out the door wit it, then Cadillac just lost a customer. Tax credit be damned, they could get a few more sales (especially from a cat like me) if the price were a little lower or on par with umm, let’s say maybe the 2014 Corvette Stingray, at $52,000 or the Corvette Stingray Convertible at $57,700.. Either way it looks like GM needs to do a little more studying of current trends before they stick that ridiculous price tag on the car.. It should start at $48,000 max, aah but what da hell.. I’m just a consumer and auto journalist.. what do I know.. thanks 4 ya comment Cyrus.. deuces!!
