Your Game of the Year 2015

I have to be honest and say that this year for gaming was kind of ass. Honestly nothing left much of an impression or piqued my interest.

Next year is looking better definitely, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

 

I only finished GTA V this year so that was the gaming experience for me. I replied or finished a lot of backlog but I will agree nothing was really "must have" for me.

Next year has a lot as we enter the 3rd year of this generation and it's usually the 3rd year of a generation where things get really good with developers really knowing the consoles and budgets expand for the big name titles as they leave development behind on last gen. Hitman, Crackdown, Final Fantasy etc all are making 2016 look really good potentially.

 

I don't have the newer consoles or a PC capable of running their games but I briefly had some time with them. Of the few things I played, my favorite is Bloodborne and my second favorite Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. They both have their flaws. Bloodborne and its siblings, the Dark Souls games, have quirks that I find pretty annoying, but I really liked the intense combat, transforming weapons, creative enemy design and strange world.



MGSV had worse level design than its predecessors and its open world, base building, resource gathering and somewhat intrusive online elements add busywork that detracts from the experience, but the openness does allow a lot of creativity and, when I'mall when I was just out in the field doing missions.

I'm most curious about Mirror's Edge Catalyst. I really liked the presentation and parkour-style platforming of the first and it sounds like they're addressing the issue of combat interrupting the flow of the game. It should last much longer with a free-roaming open world, though I hope the developers don't use that as an opportunity to add tons of filler just so they can boast that it takes XX hours to complete. After that, I'm probably most interested in trying Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Dark Souls III, Mass Effect Andromeda and Final Fantasy XV if it actually releases here next year. And I've played and enjoyed many of the Legend of Zelda games but will most likely miss out on the next one because I don't see myself getting my hands on a Wii U.

 

Lol Bloodborne? You're so late my friend. That game takes a lot from H.P. Lovecraft. Who essentially was like the king of cosmic horror. A lot of his stuff has influence today's movies as well.

Bloodborne is a Souls game though. Demon Souls, Dark Souls etc. So be prepared for it.
