    Hey guys,

There are many talks on TV, radio, in books and just in daily conversation about chasing money versus chasing your passion. I am sure we all know of people on both sides that chasing one or the other has worked or did not work out at all. For example, we know of people who are pursuing careers that are not as predictable when it comes to income. Those people may take gigs to do something like acting, playing instruments for tours, singing, dancing for theatrical productions, free-lance writing, etc. Then we also know of people who may choose a more conventional route like going to school for engineering, law, medicine, teaching/academia/research, and so on. Those careers usually end up with graduates having a steady job with a guaranteed income for the most part. Some people may pursue either one of those routes, more "gig-based" vs more conventional route, for whatever reason.

What are your thoughts? Who do you know that is chasing money or chasing their passion? Is it working out for them? Is doing one or the other working out for you?

I've always chased passion. I think there's a study that says money only brings you happiness up to a certain threshold. After you make a certain amount of money, it doesn't make you any happier. I'd rather be happy pursing my passions. It's more fulfilling. Obviously you can't walk around being poor all the time, but having a passion for something is so much better.

I say chase your passions because if you are doing it right, the money will follow. I abruptly left law school and quit my job as a paralegal in a high end employment and disability law firm because I was chasing money. I was making a really good living, the firm was prosperous but I looked around and saw nothing but miserable people. The Partners, especially the managing partner was miserable despite being what I considered rich. These attorneys were taking vacations around the world, paralegals spending time skiing at Lake Tahoe and despite all of that, they were just coasting through life, with meaningless relationships, and honestly having very little time to spend their money.

I left it all because I wasn't passionate about the law but I was passionate about that paycheck. I realized it wasn't really worth it. I left law school and transferred to graduate school to study something I am passionate about and now I work in the field and make a pretty decent living at it. Chase your passions, if you are doing it right everything else will fall into order.

Wow that is something! How long were you in law school before you left?

I was in medical school first before entering graduate school. I know that I like the medical field but in some shape or form, I really do want to balance it with working in the music industry somehow.

I left law school after 1 1/2 years. Went to graduate school studied Diplomacy and Strategic Communications and now I am working in my dream job.
