She would become an even better, fun conversation-loving bot after having a bunch of fun, very not racist conversations with the Internet's upstanding citizens."-Yeah right lol as if we all know don't know that the internet is not at least a 90% cesspool of evil.

    I can't believe that they did not anticipate this. Have they never seen even the comments section on Youtube videos or hell even Facebook? I can only imagine the other things they had it saying that were not mentioned. If humans ever really build some kind of real Artificial Intelligence, you just know the dumb@sses among us will get it to do evil things or destroy itself or us or both. SMH.

    Not sure why they couldn't program some "off limits" words and phrases into the A.I. If folks would curse out Obama on Twitter, I don't know why Microsoft thought that Tay would get through unscathed.

    Thanks @ColumbusGuy for sharing this piece with us. This is my first time hearing about this. The saying "art imiates life" seems to have become a reality. We have all seen movies like RobCop, Star Wars, and Terminator that kind of hinted of what could be.

    The social media format is always going to attract Trolls. But, damn racial comments right out the box? I can only imagine what is going to happen when this shit really gets popping off.

    Yeah and I am sure they are giving us a 'watered down' version of what they had it saying and were teaching it. Figures that they would teach it to be anti-black, anti-Jewish, anti-transgender. smh. You just know it also learned some anti-gay stuff. Like @Sage noted, you would think they would have some kind of filter for 'off limits' stuff-even kids would know to do that. And the people putting this out there did not know it or think about it apparently. *sigh*

    @ColumbusGuy, this A.I. bot was built by Microsoft right here in Washington state. There is no way the developers could have anticipated the vitriol. There is no racism, sexism, anti-semitism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. It is full of liberals and hipsters (like the folks in Portlandia). It's all love out here… At least that what most folks around here like to tell me.

    ^^ LOL All they have to do is look at any youtube comments section about nearly anything to see hate and vitriol. And Oregon also has those crazy militia guys taking over Federal Parks, and Spokane is not exactly liberal central and is also in Washington State and just a hop, jump and a skip away from Idaho-Mormon in the South, crazy survivalist nutcase 'White Homeland' in the north. Every area has it's crapholes!

    Yes. I know WA and OR well. I have lived in Seattle for a long time. My previous post was written in a completely mocking tone because many people in WA, OR and CA (lived in Southern California too) like to pretend that the "isms" and phobias don't exist out here. Many of these folks tell POC and members of other marginalized communities that they are simply being too sensitive. It's similar to the other Washington: Congress' intransigence has nothing to do with Obama being a mixed race man who identifies as Black.
