This is one of the most horrible good bad worse understandable interesting thought provoking stupid videos buzz feed has ever put out. The generalizations here are off the charts. CP time, watermelon, black people not into politics...we still here with these "questions"? Nonetheless...a few of these as stupid and horrible as they are valid. I don't think it's wrong to question ourselves but this is ridiculous. Or maybe its how or the context that just makes this bad.

I watched this and some of the questions did leave me like WTF while others left me with the feeling of "well..." I also think that a lot of it was coming from a sarcastic place as well, yet because we are so strong and prideful in our blackness that a lot of people take offense to it.

Questions that were asked were very true to our ignorance and self hate. "Why can't we acknowledge that there are many types of black people?" That's a question that stuck out to me because of the fact that a lot of black people and non black people don't acknowledge the fact that black people can be multifaceted.

I was recently talking with a coworker about a persons authenticity in what's considered to be black. For him the stereotypical black person came to mind as loud, outspoken, and "ghetto". I asked him does he expect that behavior from me, as he's gotten to know me over the last year and a half and it left him kind of stuck because he couldn't. I explained to him, that type of black person is just one of the personalities that black people have. I pointed out to him that would you believe I grew up in the hood, literally jumped the fence and grew up with kids from the projects? He would have never guessed it because it's not the "type" of black person I decide to portray in my adult life. Even explained to him that my current way of speaking is not even what I come from. I think in that conversation I opened his eyes to the fact that I acknowledge that there are many types of black people and that were are not what a lot of us people of color tend to portray or have been portrayed as overall.

I actually think it's sometimes good to ask people ridiculous questions, especially in matters like this.
People tend to turn a blind eye to the things that they don't want to talk about or have no interest in but when confronted with the silly or absurd, the thinking process occurs because the brain is wired for us to process information through our own logical way of thinking.

To keep pushing for change for us we have to press each other and not accept complacency in some of these silly mindset questions.

My mom actually sent me a link to the video and my initial impression was like whoa! Stereotype central but after watching it again, I found humor in it. The thing about comedy is that there is always elements of TRUTH in it, that what makes it funny and uncomfortable. I mean, this was a three minute buzzfeed video, people need to chill out LOL. I often think that we have become this hyper-sensitive culture that can find reasons to get butthurt about everything.

I think a lot of that came from the way it seems to me, all of those black folks seem to come from one area...the west coast. Nothing wrong with that but had that felt like a mix of black millenials from across the country with different experiences, I think there would have been questions that never would have been recorded because the mix of experience background would have answered most of them.

This reaction video was interesting to me..

She said Ask Jeeves and Lycos and I fell out.

She hit me with two that I own up to.
My laugh is crazy loud and obnoxious and some folk do wonder what I'm on.
I love my hot sauce, scorpion or ghost pepper and it goes on almost everything!

I have BEEN keeping a bottle of hot sauce in my vehicles for years in case of emergencies.

I live in the south. A catfish fry is capable to pop off at any moment and I want to be prepared.

I keep a bottle of Crystal hot sauce in my desk. French people don't believe in hotsauce. I literally brought bottles from the States and restock using Amazon.

@ControlledXaos, this is merely an aside. While it may seem like all of the participants in the video come from the West Coast, I don't know whether that holds true. Buzzfeed is located in New York and has offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and D.C.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm from NJ, but have lived in Seattle on and off since junior high. I know that I don't sound (stereotypically) Black. I am often asked where I'm from. In a similar vein, my parents who are from South Carolina and have lived in NJ and Seattle for many years sound just like me despite being raised in the South.

The folks in the video may come from different parts of the country with varied backgrounds. Buzzfeed may simply have selected people with similar viewpoints.

I get that. But they all came off to me, as West coasters. But I am aware a huge percentage of people who live there now didn't start out there.

But that brings up another point....Black Diversity. Who hired them such that they all felt like they were similar? I get it's only a few snippets of time for each of them so we really don't know but there are people who called them "that type" or "snowflake."
