    Long after squashing rumors that he’d signed a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, openly gay Texas-born rapper Fly Young Red has now officially joined local Houston music label Music and Talent Nation.

    Since bursting onto the scene 2 years ago with his viral music video, “Throw That Boy Pussy,” Fly Young Red (born Jeffrey Christopher Jackson, Jr) has dropped a mixtape (Pretty Boy Realness), new music videos and opened concerts for artists like Trina.

    As we’ve reported in great length in the past, indie gay rappers have been Out and open in the industry for quite some time. Only recently have they been making an impact into the mainstream consciousness. Artists like Le1f, Mykki Blanco and Cakes Da Killa are also letting the world know that Hip Hop music is not exclusive to heterosexuals.

    Out of all those artists, Fly Young Red is the only one who appears to fit the traditional model of the braggadocios, alpha-male, heterosexual MC’s that we know and love. However, instead of scantily clad female strippers, Fly Young Red showcases transgender women and men twerking their “boy pussies.”

    In the press release, Fly Young Red states, “I want to thank Dale and the Music and Talent Nation Family for giving me this opportunity to express myself as a legit recording artist. I just want to make good music….”

    We look forward to seeing not only what Fly Young Red releases in the future, but also what artists he inspires to follow his lead.

    I think its cool that Fly Young Red got signed to a record label. But in the end it will be Fly Young Red skills as a Rapper and not being gay rapper that will cause him to make it as a rapper. Because I don't think there is enough gay support out there right now for that be his only fans to make it in the music business. So he going to have to crossover to straight community and to do that he going to have to be a good rapper.

    The "Throw That Boi Pussy" bacteria has not been removed from his career. Gay and bisexual male and females making music have to make it so that we can say they are an artist and take away the noun. Otherwise, they will be outcasted in the game called music.

    I have listened to his Pretty boy Realness Ep and aside the Boy Pussy song ... the other songs are actually quality. Put him in a high tech studio, niggar got potential

    I have heard him do a lot of covers, interested what he will do on his own original beats

    Some critics say the song may be taking the worst parts of hip-hop and applying them to a new set of consumers. There s no doubt that Fly Young s single and its accompanying music video are challenging hip-hop norms, but is it creating a space for gay men within the genre or just transposing objectification onto a new class?
