After not posting any updates since November of last year (yes, 2015) the editor and creator of the site finally officially announced that it is over:

    Writing The Final Post, Fin.

MUSED had a very pro-fem/pro-trans and often a strong anti-masculine stance at times, but it was def a decent site having much needed discussions in the community.

What are your thoughts? Did you visit MUSED often (or at all) when it was active? Are there any other non-gossip LGBT sites by POC left that you visit (besides Cypher Avenue)?

It sounds like they were too young, with too many life changes, etc. to keep up the site. Maybe this site is different because both you and Ocky are(relatively)older and more established with your lives and would not necessarily be in need of using the site to move on to 'something bigger' like a job in DC or something. It sounds like he was young and used the site as a springboard for something bigger and maybe needed to for $$$ reasons among others.

Is this site more like a personal hobby/labor of(dare I say it..love?)for you and Ocky? Those things are very costly to young people trying to carve out a life-and(relatively)easier for established people who have their lives together already. Just my two cents.

It started out as a hobby for me, but Ocky has always been interested in the business aspects of our blogging. Now we're both kinda on the same page but I realize that trying to make money off of the gay audience is impossible unless you are a party promoter, pornographer or hookup site/app developer.

But there are some things money can't buy-having a good, ethical, quality site that also helps people in a niche group within a minority group within a minority group network(see convo today in private posts) is one of those. Congrats to both you and Ocky on that. Again there is not only no other black gay site like this, there is not another white gay site like this really. The white gay Elite would not let that happen. JMHO.

I remember reading MUSED. Some of it connected, some didn't. Their effort was admirable, so I give them daps for that.

Their platform and model was difficult- they wanted it to be a HuffPo or LATimes, but you gotta have consistent authors for that. And if enough bricks in that wall of authors gets loose, the whole thing comes crashing down. And it did.

I think a lot of it is the free culture mentality that Internet culture has fostered since the web became ascendant. That's why I try to kick some coins to CA or other writers with donation buttons. MUSED was a stop of mine, along with Rod 2.0. I think VSB's site is a model for blog-entrepreneur stewardship, but I'm not sure how much is applicable to black gay male audiences. I'd stock up on CA tshirts, key chains and coffee mugs if that's what it would take to help y'all take it to another level.

Yeah, where is the Cypher Avenue gofundme?

They could be quite a bit more mercenary without it being disruptive or anything.

I did like MUSED. I tried to check them out whenever I saw their name pop up with an article. I also like my brothers above mentioned would be down for the cause to get some CA merchandise. (I should donate before I want merchandise, huh? Let me go do that so that I can support something I like, instead of getting it for free.)
