Mario Van Peebles' "Superstition"

Who else is watching? The show has aired two episodes so far,and I'm into it.


The show follows Isaac,Bea,and Calvin of the Hastings family in the south (I want to say Louisiana,but without terrible over the top southern accents thankfully) who battle supernatural forces. Their public business is the operation of a mortuary and funeral parlor. The first episode begins with the return of the oldest son after his four tours of service in the armed forces.






Things I like so far :

The show does more show than tell.We get bits of backstory,but it's shown to us in proper scenes.The exposition we do get goes towards establishing certain mystical rules the show wants to set,and lines are dropped about Calvin's military background as well.


Most of the time ,the first handful of episodes in a series is shaky.I always have trouble knowing if I'll like it or hate it unless things are extremely poor.However,Superstition seems like it knows what it's setting out to do.We hit the ground running so to speak,and a few good threads are presented for future stories.


The Hastings seem to have some paranormal capabilities.Calvin,the oldest son,has visions.Without giving away too much,I will say the rest of the family is uniquely qualified to fight evil.

They have also harnessed the energy of runes to enhance their bullets,basically giving them blaster weapons.




The villain of the show is known as The Dredge .He is definitely a cunning threat,with unpredictable schemes.I've seen the actor playing different types of characters (including a magical villain), and he is still giving a great performance here.


Superstition

 

It's so good.I hope it doesn't get cancelled.
