One's choice of perfume could, to a fair extent, be an indicator of one's persona. I wonder if guys in this community ever give much consideration to purchasing perfume, what those considerations might be, if any, and what some of your choices might be.
Great topic @HauteChocolat glad to see you posting! I think the natural scent a man gives off is very appealing..hard to describe really..not BO, definitely not that but just a earthy deep scent that you faintly smell anyway. I hate overpowering colognes I prefer that you just be clean and neutral but when a guy does have on cologne I like it to be light but distinct in smell, I shouldn't be able to smell you before I see you ugh. Don't really wear it that often myself so I don't know any by name to use as an example sorry, but I know what I like when I smell it!
I agree with @cypher21 . I'm not a fan of cologne, I'd rather have your natural scent. If you're going to wear some make sure it's light and I can't smell it unless we are kissing distance from each other.
I love using perfumes/scents, also when a guy uses them. I like to go for clean, sweet or warm scents. Also use some scents whose target audience are women (but I think a man can still use because GENDER EQUALITY,well that is what I use to verify my purchase lol ) eg Diptyque do son and Van Cleef and Arpels Reve. I meet this 5'11, really built(Cross Fit), kinda scruffy looking Armenian guy and he was wearing 'Bleu de Chanel' which is fresh and woody. I found the contrast, his looks/how he smelt, very attractive. Some of my favorites are Acqua di parma Oud, lacoste white, Van Cleef and Arpels California Reverie, and Byredo Pup(get a sample of this or get to smell it, amazingly different ),Marc Jacobs Men and Creed Original Vetiver( reminds me of that first smell of rain on a very dry soil).
I'm actually big on cologne. However, I don't think anyone should bathe in it like some ppl do. I prefer my guy to use body spray and cologne. I often tend to mix the two.
Interesting views. Personally, I find perfumes a strong but yet subtle way of projecting one's personality. I once walked past a man on Avenue Montaigne and whilst his scent wasn't particularly overpowering, he simply smelt like wealth. I seldom spray more than two squirts and tend to stick to niche brands. Sycomore from the Chanel les exclusif line to me projects a clean masculine prowess with an ever so slight hint of sweetness to it, perhaps most discernible by the wearer but it does have its days with me; and more than words from Xerjoff makes me feel worldly, like a regular at bar 228 at the Le Meurice, with the bartenders knowing just how you like your aperitif. I'm yet to be sold on anything from Byredo but Frederic Malle, my oh my, particularly those from Dominique Ropion, sublime! Creed make really nice perfumes - Aventus was an exceptional use of the pineapple smell. However, with Creed, in certain circles, I think one runs the risk of smelling like others. Having said that, Terre d'hermes edt was absolutely fantastic when it was released in 2006. I happened to purchase a bottle just when it hit the market and I hadn't smelt anything quite like it at the time and it sort of made you confident that most around you hadn't either and that you had it sorted as far as the scent department was concerned. That was before it became ubiquitous and Hermes perfumes became front and centre at every perfume stand. They haven't been able to replicate such a hit anyway, not even with the edp version that followed.
Bleu de Chanel is quite a popular one. I smelt it at its release and didn't quite like it but quite a few people were going about it so I tried it again and still nothing. If Creed Original Vetiver smells like the first smell of rain on dry soil, Frederick Malle's Bois d'orage (US name)/ French Lover (rest of the world) smells like a walk through the woods after it has rained. Tom Ford's grey vetiver was actually quite well made and one I enjoyed going back to after periods of abandonment.
I'm not a huge of colognes as a lot of them just smell like dish detergent to me but, if I do buy them it's either "Issey Miyake" or "Eternity". Used to be a big fan of "Dunhill Red" years ago, but I can't find it anymore. I like when you kinda have to be up on a dude to smell what he's wearing.
I typically have two or three go to scents that I frequent - I like a scent that is lightly spicy and subtle. I have found that I like Calvin Klein - Man and my back up is Burberry - Weekend.
Yeah I'm definitely a cologne guy...I prefer lighter scents for sure...I'm not a fan of super spicy or earthy smells though..I just bought Dolce & Gabbana-The One and Paco Rabanne-1 Million over the holidays
I have been going for Niche Fragrances of late. Small perfume houses really make some good and long lasting fragrances, though they do not have the huge Ad budget like the Designer companies. I find that I rarely come or pass by someone that smells like me and I like that uniqueness.
There's some guys out here that smell so good, but I would feel weird to go ask them which cologne they're using lol. It's mostly older cats too. I love strong scent of cologne actually, just not on me. I do a little light spray but I don't really need cologne. Lotion, deodorant and clean clothes do me well. I love my natural scent for the most part and I don't really sweat or funk.
....then, I think you'd really like Bleu De Chanel and Bond no. 9's "I Love New York". (I could talk about cologne for ages, but I'll just leave it there.)
I tend to wear Invictus myself or Versace Eros those are pretty subtle and not to loud, but I agree that the kind of cologne a man wears is a projection of his persona and shows great hygiene, if he bathes before he puts it on. B/c there is nothing cute about a funky man!!!
Yeah I have the Bleu De Chanel but sadly, it has moved to the back of the shelf lol. I've been eyeing the "Gentlemen Only" by Givenchy but I haven't pulled the trigger yet
I actually own Gentlemen Only by Givenchy it smells really and works well with my body chemistry I say go for it.
Yeah dude. The reason I haven't bought it yet is because I've been trying to find it as a set or something. The set costs the same as just buying the cologne itself. So if i can't find it, then i'll probably grab it.
I like when dudes wears scents that I don't wear. I'm a Perry Ellis "White" dude. It makes the ladies get wet and the dudes get hard and want to bury their nose in my neck.
