Michael Sam Sees More Racism In Gay Community Than Homophobia In Black Community

On racism in the gay community:
I picture this dude listening to En Vogue's Free Your Mind while swiping left on brown faces.

On homophobia in the black community:
I wonder how many non suburban, mid to lower level communities of color he's been through.

Well I think he died realize he's still black until those white guys started rejecting him when that check didn't come through.

But I can understand black people saying he's not black enough and gay white people saying he's not gay (queen/fem) enough.

 

I was going to be mad at this when I first was it, because of the headline, but once I saw that he was only speaking on HIS experience and not trying to make a broader more generalized blanket statement, I was like "Well, that's his experience." OF COURSE he sees more racism in the gay community because of the gays he aligns himself with (or probably more telling, doesn't align himself with), and the blacks he's around.

He might have come from poverty, but I'm sure the blacks he's referring to now are the liberal (and very few) he ran into at Mizzou and the more affluent ones he's come into contact with since being thrust into the spotlight. We all know gays are bigotted (even though most will chalk it up to "preference"), but gays are uber picky regardless.

I hate how people speaking on their isolated and most times outlying personal experiences get extrapolated to an overview of society at large. You know racist gays? Ok, and their are gays who are republicans. You haven't seen many homophobic blacks? Great, I also know blacks who hate watermelon. What are we saying?

 

He must be having trouble securing another white boyfriend.

 

^^There is nothing wrong with a white boyfriend-as long as it is for the right reasons and it is not only a white boyfriend, but I think you may have the right call on this one.

 

I think we all know white gays are just as racist as straight white people. It's white America and their mainstream media that don't know it. I'm sure many if not most of CA members can relate to being told you're "not gay enough." If you're just a regular dude who doesn't fit the preconceived mold of what a gay man is supposed to be (effeminate). You'll get flack from other gay people and even straight people for not being gay enough. As for black homophobia I don't know what kind of black people Michael Sam hangs around but I can assure you they're not the average black person and are probably more liberal, which most black people aren't.

 

I also wonder what he considers homophobia. If he's expecting black people to scream "GOD HATES F@GS" and picket, that's not usually how it shows up in our communities outside of church. But even the most liberal of black people tend to show homophobic tendencies at some point. Whether it's random "I'm no sissy, I'm a real man" type comments to using the implication that someone is gay as an assault on their character, it is there.

 

When I dated black men I have to admit, I only got negative reactions....from other white gays. Nobody else seemed to give a shit-not even my parents. But I lost gay 'friends' or some I thought were friends because I dated a black guy. I had one gay 'friend' come right up to my face and tell me, 'I can't believe you are dating that little n****r!'.

25 plus years later and we still have a very long way to go.

 

Well, no one else probably said anything because they have couth, doesn't mean they didn't think it lol

 

Yeah...great. So the white gays were racist and lacking couth. lol I honestly don't remember any looks or second glances or anything from anyone-but the gays.

* and about that guy who said that to me...I did not do a thing. I was so stunned I just stood there in shock and he walked away.

Hell in this shitty county I live in and have worked in for several years I have worked with interracial couples, no problems, and one of my coworkers got married and moved to Florida in December-she was black and she married a white guy and nobody thought a thing of it. I have heard a few things over the years but for a place with a rep as being racist I have really not seen or heard that much actually.

But of course there are the dating apps, the messageboards like the one that has me so pissed off, and the everpresent racist comments on every video site, news site, etc. to remind me that the white straights are just as representative as the white gays of racism and bigotry of all kinds-and black gays and straights are not exactly immune from racial and other forms of bigotry either. The whole thing is fucking depressing as hell.

Sometimes I think we are moving backwards and I just tell myself it is one of those steps backwards before we take two steps forward again. *sigh*

It is true. Maybe as was stated other people thought things but never said or did anything, because I never noticed anything unusual around us when we were out and about. My straight white friends had dinner with us a couple times and they were fine with him. We went to movies, out to eat, to the clubs, etc.-just the normal dating stuff. The only time anyone said or did anything I noticed was from these several gay white men. They were not 'typical gays' just 'normal guys'-so I thought. But I found out some of them were racist as hell.

This is also one of the things I found out about the last guy I dated(and the last guy I had sex with) a little over five years ago-racist as hell. His friends were too, but they all hid it. I had to find out later about it all after I had invested time and effort into this worthless person.

The guy who said it to me way back when was a very masculine, unclockable, kind of 'country' working class guy from a town southeast of here called Lancaster. He was kinda beefy and about six two at least(I am maybe five nine) and he just seemed to be towering over me when he said it. And he said it with an intensity and a hatred that I have rarely witnessed, which is one of the reasons I was so shocked-he leaned his face down towards my face to say it. I could literally feel his hatred.

We were in a vestibule between two areas and I was going one way and he was going the other way, and he stopped me and said it and just continued on and I just stood there for a while in the vestibule alone, just in shock. I found out his racism was only the tip of the iceberg also.

 

I wish I could say I'm surprised but I'm not. The n-word is the go to move anytime someone especially if they're white wants to insult a black person. More times than I can count I see white gay people lashing out a black people, both straight and gay using the n-word as well as other ugly racial language online in the comments section. Same thing applies to f-word with straight people. If I had a dollar for every time I've been called an n****r or a f****t online I'd be rich enough to play golf with Bill Gates.
