I'm slowly but surely becoming more & more uninterested in this show. It started out good however this season is showing otherwise. And as many of you mentioned the cameos are getting ridiculous. #WhenDoesPowerReturn lol

Yeah I honestly feel like Lee Daniels and the Empire team are disrespectful as fuck. Its like they either think black viewers are simple minded and need to be entertained (re: cameos) every 5mins, or that they care more about numbers/money than actually producing quality storyline.

I mean I get they're trying to go the whole nighttime soap opera route, but can we at least get something a little bit better!? Hell, I'd be fine with the random gorilla costumes and ghosts from past if they marketed themselves as a telenovela, then all the craziness would be okay. Everything just seems too over the top this season and I slowly find my self turning into an expert hate-watcher like @Nick Delmacy lmao

I'm still NOT over that gorilla suit. Of all suits they could've dressed Cookie in they chose the gorilla suit? Are you kidding me? I was both confused and offended by that scene. And l'm surprised Taraji even let that fly with them degrading her like that knowing the racist history in America Hollywood associating black people as monkeys and gorillas. It left a bad taste in my mouth. And the people at FOX and Lee Daniels need their arses kicked for that

EXACTLY! Everything went completely downhill for me after that gorilla suit scene. Call me petty, but she wasn't even sweating, her hair was still laid, and she gave that whole long ass speech like its not hot as hell in any mascot suit, not to mention caged up in an outdoor concert lmao. But yeah, the #FreeLucious - #BlackLivesMatter comparisons bothered me, but that's another can of worms in it itself.

Exactly! I thought I was the only one who felt like they were making a mockery of the seriousness of BlackLivesMatter and mass incarceration.

You ain't neva lie! I was through myself! I'ma give it another round this week before l reach my final decision if l wanna continue to watch this season or the show in general because at the rate its going, l'm not feeling it like how i was when it first premiered. I think Lee than got to comfortable and need to get his ass back on the hot seat because he still has ways to go so l would hope he doesn't F U C K IT UP in my Rupaul voice lol

A lot good points have been made! The gorilla suit thing was supposed to be this deep metaphoric comparison to how they actually think of us but if the vast majority of what is seen on TV is inline with all these existing stereotypes we hate then I truly don't understand what the point is?

I understand that certain things are used to captivate audiences and I know not everyone thinks or relates to the same things as I do but isn't time we saw some black characters that are multifaceted in more then just the usual ways? As I stated earlier, I'm beginning to like Andre because we're starting to see different parts of him that, sure can be scary/violent but is understandable.

Luscious is a sociopath and Jamal is taking his side because???? He threw him in the trash? lol IT MAKES NO SENSE! Too many people with too many problems and too much talk with the wrong kind of action...

I was actually more into this recent episode than the last two. However, I can do without some of the music, better than last weeks but still.

Now how do you guys feel about this Sandra Bland reference next episode? Awareness or mockery? I see people on twitter already debating that.

Yes, this recent episode was much better than the last two. I'm glad it was because l was slowly but surely about to wheel myself away from this show because of the last two episodes that were disappointing however they've wheeled me back in lol

The music on this episode was definitely some of the best music in the entire Empire series.

I only watch this show to check out the oldest brother's ass. He has a great ass.

    Haha.

In all honesty, I don't know how to explain my feelings towards this show other than this: I've watched every, single episode of this show thus far, and have found myself laughing and, at times, invested even. But after watching an episode, I never want to rewatch the episode of it again. Ever. I don't even have the desire to watch a clip of it.

I feel almost like it's a show that I'm not "supposed" to be watching. I'm a grown ass man, but watching it and digesting on what the hell I've just seen is congruent to a proverbial bad aftertaste in my mouth.

I think Jussie was the best part of the movie. Everything else about it was trash. Everything.

Yeah I liked the overall premise of the movie, how they were college friends reuniting and all that. It could've been a decent movie but the acting was pretty terrible, almost comically so.

Yeah, tonight's episode was much better than the last three episodes. The show is starting to pick backup because at first l was a little worried for a minute. But tonight was good. I actually enjoyed it.

I thought it's been picking up since the third episode. I missed this Wed. comeback episode though.

Also heard ratings have been stabled and also went up a week or so.

Yeah, it's not accomplishing what it initially set out do. Which, was not to just entertain but highlight some of the plights that are going in the black community. It was supposed to be a mirror to hold up so we could see ourselves both bad and good.

That's why I am making sure to watch and support shows like Blackish(Anthony Anderson.] and Rosewood w/Morris Chestnut(you see there I go again-lol) They are shows that have leading black characters that are not stereotypical and one dimensional.

@Nick Delmacy I got you baby.

So guess what? After last night Jamal not gay no more he' been deliervt. They got this boy having intimate moments and locking lips with Alicia Keys (I mean I probably would too but never eat the fish). Oh and the boyfriend is DONE, he got caught getting a BJ at a house party by some ugly meth head IN THE KITCHEN IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY, MIND YOU - so yeah Jamal got him deported (true story, I didn't make this up).

They completely ruined the Anika character and made her a stalker of Hakeem.

They got Cookie making pointless roundtrips to save her crackheaded sister and getting played by her spanish papi.

They got this white girl who is obviously pretending to be pregnant, but not revealing why.

They have Lucious having flashbacks of his mentally ill mom but not propelling the Andre storyline to the next level.

There's tidbits in the show that seem like it's about to go somewhere but then they drop the ball.

I hear the writing team is hiring, you down? carl

LMAO! This recap is so real! I don't even know what they're doing with this show anymore. Character development don't make sense. How did Anika go from a calm cool and collected business woman to a crazy stalker? Like what?

I agree with OhSheit. You can tell that there were a lot of people in the "Well, We Should Do This..." room. And some of those people shouldn't be in the room.

Season 2 has been good, in my opinion. However, I didn't like how the Jamal and Skye (Alicia Keys) kissing scene at the end revealed how homophobia is still a problem that hasn't left the room yet. It's acting indeed. But the "They Show Too Much Gay S*** On TV..." people really went in on it, especially the ones who think Jamal Lyon and Jussie Smollett are the same person...smh At first, I thought it was funny, but they are dead serious thinking he kissed her on the non acting tip and is now straight/delivert. And some of those people that are women were saying "Shoot, Alicia Keys can turn me out, too.." hence the double standard with sexuality on men vs. sexuality on women. The same women were also on social media talking about the Holiday Hump'n video with Yusaf Mack and how "A man shouldn't be with a man...nasty ass...it's not right...How could men do that?..." Just pointing it out bc it's all problems.

But yes, going back to the character direction in the show, it's a maze, because all of the characters can be with one week or two and it flips the next week. For me, it's ok to flip the direction of a character. However, it can get messy if there are too many people in the kitchen trying to cook.

How the hell did I miss this episode? I keep reading people referencing this. I wasn't even going to comment anymore until now. I got to go back and catch up. But, very good commentary.

I was so shocked that Jamal and Skye Summers (Alicia Keys) locked lips!

I like Season 2. I still enjoy Empire. It is not like Season 1 but things change! I felt like the show lost its footing earlier in Season 2 but I feel like they are getting it back to where it used to be. I will keep supporting.

Okay, I actually enjoyed this mid-season finale. :nopekid:

This Lee Daniels guy is a troll for that Jamal and Alicia mess but glad he's still gay.

I wonder who killed Andre's baby moms and if she is in fact dead. I need to see an epic meltdown him too.
Preferably with him in the shower all wet, he can keep the slacks on but I need to see the cakes, no underwear, no shirt...okay maybe a wife beater.

I actually loved this episode. And nonetheless, the first part of Season 2 was really good, specifically, the ending for the last two episodes.

The whole Jamal and Skye thing was irritating, not because I knew what it was (infatuation, not sexual attraction), but because of the homophobic rah-rah that went on, because of one kiss, and presuming he is now straight. People really couldn't distinguish Jamal from Jussie and they started talking about how they were finally going to watch the show because Empire "has finally stopped showing the gay s***". Hopefully, that one-episode "love affair" ended like it should have. I'm not here for them dragging it and turning it into "I know he gay, but the sex was good, so he still can be my boyfriend, but just for the sex..."...Uggghhhhhh NOT TODAY! As for last night's ending, it was good. Hakeem turned the tables with the Empire board meeting scene and the pushing of Rhonda down the stairs was the banger.

Regardless of whatever, the show has not lost its spark and the people are watching. The cliffhanger last night was genius. March will be here before you know it.
