    Harriet Tubman, an abolitionist who helped to rescue slaves, in the late 1800s.

    One of my heroes from the slavery and post slavery era! I love her and what she did for society at the time. Well, she is being honored with her face on the $20 bill!

    What do you think of this bold and love overdue move by the treasury department?

    I am so here for this move and I think it is about time a black person was honored on some currency! (Hell, we spend enough of it). I just wish that the estimate timeline of it being officially unveiled in 2030 would be sooner - like 2018 or something. :)

    She is a true hero and her selfless contributions to us as a people should definitely be honored.

    Thanks for sharing this. She was one of the first black American heroes many of us were taught about. Some good threads popping up in the last couple of days.

    I'm excited for this and it can't come fast enough. I love the fact that they're exchanging a slave owner with probably the most famous slave freer! 2020 can't come fast enough and I know the IG memes are going to be lit lol.

    This hero existed because of greed and capitalism. So we honor her by symbolically making her apart of the system she fought against?

    I hate to say it but I'm more for it because it will make Republicans and white racist upset.

    Man, that's thought provoking. Definitely with you on the latter statement about it pissing off white racists, (ie more than 50% of Republicans), and kinda with you on the former. Does currency in and of itself represent greed and capitalism or is it the system behind the currency that represents it? She fought against greed and capitalism of the time, which was slavery, a system. We've abolished that, and granted we still have a capitalist society where we are not short on greed, but again, is it the currency in and of itself what represents that?

    I guess we could put Madame CJ Walker on currency? I'm not being cynical, but perhaps that would be more appropriate if we wanted to honor a black person, because using the rationale of being heroes against greed and capitalism, I can think a number of black heroes who i wouldn't mind seeing honored in a way people would see them every day and perhaps be reminded at some point as to why they are there, but wouldn't be...because they stood against greed and capitalism.
