I was asked "why are you GAY... JUST WHY?!"

Is it wrong that I think this dude looks like a post-op transgender man?

 

I get his point, but the delivery sounds more like a rehearsed monologue than him simply sharing. But like I said, I get his point, obviously.

 

I kind of was thinking that even after reading the title of the thread...lol He's too beefy for me. I like a toned, in-shape dude, but not on a bodybuilding level.

However, I concur everything he said. I hate when heterosexual males and females ask that question, especially when they are so ignorant and have lack of information on the totality of human sexuality. I extremely hate when the question is asked to gay and even bisexual men, especially Black men. And I REALLY hate it when I clap back asking "Why are you straight?" and then get answers like "...because that's what I like" and "...because God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve or Angela and Eve..." and just generic, just-to-say-it responses to somehow point out that the pure fact of asking the question is answering that you aren't and the answer being that you did. And LORD, don't be good looking dude and be around some straight Black females, because you will get the "Well have you ever been with a female?....What female broke your heart?...Why...Why...Why...". That's when I get irritated...ughhhhhhhhh

Because of heterosexuality being the primary norm and the overall accepted sexuality, the question is asked, sadfully with ignorance. And with public advertisement of stereotypes and people having done "research" to determine rape/molestation, lack of fathers in the household, the government putting poisons in our food, being raised by a single mother and being around a whole bunch of females growing up, etc. as root causes for someone to become homosexual or bisexual, that question being asked is not going to be archived anytime soon.

 

Lol...his delivery is corny and like SB3 said, monologued and does not come off as genuine, but I like the message overall.

I got his message....the first part was thought provoking. Why would any sane individual choose to go through what gay men(of color) go through every day?? homophobes are pretty delusional and that's why they can't see how it is more than just a choice.

 

Sorry...somewhat unrelated...can a gay dude get 10s of thousands of facebook followers without being muscular and half naked or without being a celebrity? What if he was an overweight gay dude? Would anyone even be checking for this?

I wouldn't call them celebrities, def not like or Jason Collins or Michael Sam..... People follow them in the thousands for their opinions or daily jokes...

 

Looking at social media ...yes there are the outliers; however I know we are not saying these gay "social media models" would have just as many followers if it wasn't for their outwardly appearance.

 

I def get ur point, but at the end of the day, a lot of ppl wouldn't have their careers if it wasn't for looks. Everyone has diff 'strengths', and while it may seem shallow, it's a model that isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

The bright side is that dude has his gang of followers (and is more likely to get those easy clicks) but social media has allowed for the complete opposite of him to have a platform and a gang of followers.

Eventho, this is exactly why I hate social media, because everyone gets to have an opinion...

 

Btw, I was def not cosigning the notion of needing to have and show a nice body to speak (esp when ur topic has nothing to do w fitness, ijs) i was just calling a spade a spade.

 

Loved what he had to say. I'm sure that many will use his words when asked a similar question.
I understand the dialogue regarding his looks and beingable to speak up, but if you look around on facebook or even in many of the discussions in on Cypher, people respond to the men muscular men with defined pectorals and abs. So many have subscribed to what the media dictates. For example, the page about older guys, ALL of those men probably go to the gym 5 to 6 times a week to look tike that. It's not typical ..and it's not real. And in reality, musclebound does not necessarily equal healthy/fit.

This guy does to break the stereotypes that are out there about gay men through his diction and his demeanor. However, t I bet if he were a little thick and not a gym rat, we would be having a totally different conversation here. ijs

 

True, but to be fair, this dude is clearly an attention whore...Scroll through his Facebook page and you'd be hard pressed to find many photos of him with more than just his underwear on...I'm all for flaunting it if you have it, be he's def overly exposed his body to the point of soft-core pornography, thus him being "gay famous."

 

I get it, I really do, wonderful message. It seems authentically delivered. I just can't get past the nipples staring me down, it very distracting. "Don't be afraid to live in your truth" <----WELL SAID!! I would would rather be a first rate version of my self over a second rate version of somebody else....

 

Side Note: Although I hope I'm proven to be totally wrong...but when I see pics like this of him and his boyfriend (he's the one on the left) side-by-side with dozens of his publicly posted semi-nude shots...I can't help but foresee breakup announcement videos similar to the one above being posted on his FB page in the near future...

I like this and totally feel that more people need to see this.

 

While breaking stereotypes that heterosexuals have about gays [masculine/muscled], he also helps support them gays have about gays [masculine/muscled/go go boy type].

He hasn't said anything that many of us haven't already said or felt before. He just said it out of a generally attractive speaker with a lot of listeners. I think that's the main reason why people paid attention. No hate, I'm just saying. I'm glad for him because everyone has a different journey but he just seems like the typical gay Instagram model.

 

I think the reason it was originally brought up by @ockydub was because this seems to be more the norm in the "gay community" than any other community...

Like why can't guys who wear a whole shirt and no underwear pics get his positive message video shared over 10,000 times on Facebook in this community?

For example, can you imagine a video called "I Was Asked Why Are You a Christian...Just Why" and the dude had mad thirst trap photos and made his statement with his nips popping all out?

Ah okay, yeah I think @ockydub's point was a larger extension on the simpler discussion that @ControlledXaos dismissed. It is sad that IG models and porn stars are our celebrities and spokespersons.

Instagram models have their place in the world but I'd have taken this a lot more seriously if his areolas were not on playing peak a boo.

Yes what dude is saying is true; however I have a hard time taking him serious because his nipples are poking out.

AND if he had on clothes in over 95% of his pics not only do I feel he wouldnt have as many followers but doubt this vid would be shared so many times.

AND looking at some of the comments to his video on facebook...many folks are making very sexual comments to his physical appearance and not his "message."

Interesting. I was asked that question one time before. Thought it was stupid then, but now I understand. If you were raised to believe that it's a choice.

Sad we are still dealing with this. Can't be surprised...we still deal with racism, bigotry, etc.
