I'm just wondering. Does anyone play in a gay sports league, baseball, softball, football, etc? If so what was your reason for joining? Did you make some real genuine friends from it? Was it a good or bad experience? Or if you just want to share some stories from playing.

I played a few season in a gay softball league (co-ed). It was mix bag for me. Sometimes it was fun, but b.s. at other times. A few sexy dudes played. But when I stopped playing it seemed like the friendships I made also ended. Got ghosted when I stopped playing. Sometimes I get invitation to play on teams.

One of the things I found strange was that the gay league I played in has a lot, i mean a lot of straight guys playing in it. I can see it having some straight dudes playing because they have a gay brother or friend that also plays. I just found it very strange the large number of straight dudes playing in this gay league. (the lesbians were mostly annoying). I would love to play in a all-male gay baseball league, but I don't know if they even exist.

I am a part of a gay sports team for kickball in ATL. I liked the team mates and meeting new people. I also liked the fact that it helped me remain active. I do enjoy the relationships that I've formed from it. I think you should do it if you have the chance to.

I would definitely like to join a gay sports league of some sort. I got love for all people, but I'm not a fan of co-ed or having a bunch of straight dudes join. It would be nice to just have an all gay-male league where the relationships are all platonic.

Exactly, that's what I would like to do, but they seem to be co-ed. When did it become a crime to have one gender sports leagues? I think guys whether gay or straight need their own space.

I’ve recently been thinking about joining one to stay active. But I’m also kind of nervous. When I was younger, I was always too shy to stick around in any sports my parents made me join. Still kinda feel that way.

I’m always worried about my non-athlete ass looking silly lol. I thought maybe being a gay league will alleviate that anxiety because theoretically I wouldn’t have to worry about hypermasculinity.

To those of you who’ve been in one, how’s the skill level of the group? Are people like super competitive or are they willing to work with you?

Well, the gay (co-ed) softball league I played in welcomed all skill levels. They actually divided it up, and have different divisions for different skill levels. Some people/teams are super-competitive, while others aren't, it varies. Some leagues do have a non-competative division where they don't even keep track of your win/lose record. Your best bet is to discuss this with the league you are interested in joining, and try to place you on the right team. I would say join, you can always switch teams the next season. For me, personally, I tried to strike a balance. I need to have some competitiveness, but not on the extreme or where it no longer becomes fun. There was this one team that when we played, we would always go into extra innings. They where actually the most fun games.

One of the things I really liked about the softball league I played in was actually helping the lesser skilled players. Even though I was not the coach, I used to help lower skilled with their hitting, fielding, and other stuff. Some players never played before and didn't know the rules. So I would have to break things down and teach them the game. I helped one of my teammates learn how to pitch. It's harder than it looks.

I thought about this, but someone I knew who'd been in a couple told me they were overwhelmingly white and fem/circuit guys. Nothing against that, but I was just over the idea of more of the same at that point.

Unfortunately they are overwhelmingly white. but not entirely. There are some Brothers and Latinos playing. I would like for more diversity. I was a little disappointed with the lack of diversity.

A few of the fem guys where actually decent players.
