James Corden spoke about the realities of being a “chubby” person in the entertainment business during an interview on actor David Tennant’s podcast released on Monday.

The late-night talk show host spoke about going for roles when he was growing up and how he was always typecast because of the way he looked ― not because of his talent. Corden said it extended to all parts of Hollywood.

“If you only watch television ― or films ― if an alien came back and they had to take a reading on planet Earth by just watching films or TV, they would imagine that if you are chubby or fat or big, you never really fall in love, you never have sex,” he said.

“Certainly no one really ever finds you attractive,” Corden added solemnly. “You will be good friends with people who are attractive and you’ll often be a great sense of comfort to them and perhaps you’ll chip in with a joke every now and again.”

He continued, “As you get older, you’ll probably be a judge in something or you’ll be dropping off a television to a handsome person in a sitcom.”

The 40-year-old said that “it felt like if the world of entertainment was a big banquet table, that people are like, ‘No, no there isn’t a seat for you here.’”

He decided, “If that’s not going to happen, then I’m going to just try to make something happen for myself.’”

Many have recently praised the Hulu show “Shrill” for its honest depictions of “fat-girl sex on TV.” HuffPost’s own Emily McCombs declared that the show is “rewriting that narrative” that Corden so aptly described.

“Fat people have sex. Fat people are desirable. For that matter, so are older people and disabled people and a whole range of others whose sex lives are rarely a part of mainstream discourse,” McCombs said. “Seeing this reflected in our pop culture shouldn’t be an anomaly.”

Most body types get it in but when fat people are shown to have sex in the media, it usually is presented in a humorous way not a sexy one.

Let's be real here, MOST people are not trying to imagine Gabby Sidobe and Kenan Thomason having sex. And I can imagine that if it was shown at least 5 people in the audience are going to verbally say "Gross!"

LOL well there was that one scene in AHS Shitty Coven where she was split open by the Minotaur. Does this count?

Lol idk fat sex on television or in a movie feels x-rated but I would def watch and I agree that everybody should have representation in pop culture without it being an anomaly.

It's also interesting what level of fat is coming to mind when folks think about fat sex.

This is so bullshit. James Corden first of all isn't fat. Who the fuck is he talking about? Certainly not himself. He's not thin no. He's kinda more more stocky/husky. But he's far from fat.

Fat is like those people you see on those propaganda documentaries that weigh two tons, and are bed bound etc.

But, sex scenes are kinda overrated and redundant in a general sense. Unless it's an erotic/sensual program or category, or some late night X rated movie on HBO, or "Backdoor Debutantes" or "Buxom Blonde Teen Girls Gone Wild", "Naughty Housewives" or "Pimps Up, Ho's Down" lol etc. porno/smut etc. why should there be sex on screen?

There are other ways to show love and romance, other than erotic sex scenes, if that's not the agenda/topic etc.

In addition, fat people aren't conventionally seen as sexually, or sensually attractive. That's just the way it is. Doesn't mean fat people are ugly, and that there aren't many, many, many, fat people that are in relationships and have good sexual relations etc. It's just not by entertainments standard, conventionally normal. But who cares if TV and film says otherwise. That's dismissive.

But they are going to showcase and put on the screen, what's conventionally attractive, usually in a sex scene.

Next. He's also a man. Nobody gives a fuck if a man is fat. As long as he's got a job, he has money, he has attitude, and he's a provider/father/breadwinner. That's all that matters.

The fuck is James Corden talking about? There is a reason why a lot of dad's from sitcoms are fat and have beer bellies and such etc. Nobody gives a fuck if a man is fat.

Now women, yes are sadly more judged on their weight. Which is why Slim Fast, Jenny Craig, Weightwatchers and Dexatrim etc. and all that shit is advertised and marketed towards women. It's not ladylike to be fat and obese. Women are supposed to be 36/24/36, coke bottle, thin, slim, in shape etc.

And again, who cares if fat or bigger people aren't shown on sex scenes. This is not an erotic or porno situation here. They are going to put what's conventionally attractive on television usually, and most likely should a situation like that occur, and they want to showcase a sex scene.

That's all I have to say on this.

Folks are going to have to learn that they will never see themselves or a character that speaks to their experience on TV. We are going to have to create that space for ourselves. Will I ever see a chill, laid back, masculine gay black dude on TV? Never, and I am fine with that.
I hoped I would see it in NetFlix's 'Sex Education' but hey...(shrug)
