Jaws dropped when actor Kumail Nanjiani revealed his newly-chiseled physique to the world last week, with many wondering how the future superhero beefed up, seemingly overnight.

Beyond protein shakes and weights, Nanjiani’s trainer Grant Roberts — who’s previously worked with stars like Eva Longoria, Zachary Levi and Hilary Swank — formulated a custom process that the 41-year-old star used to safely and effectively transform his body in just around nine months. Nanjiani undertook the regimen for his role in the upcoming Marvel film, “The Eternals,” where he plays skilled swordsmen Kingo Sunen — it hits theaters next year.

“My process is completely individualized and starts with the gathering of information,” Grant revealed to PageSix. “Current lifestyle, body composition tests, etc. I also have a 3D scanner that’s particularly useful for goal setting with the client — in this case Kumail — and strategizing the nutrition and training program with the primary focus in his case of increasing muscular size, dropping excess body fat and creating total body symmetry.”

The first three months found the “Silicon Valley” actor acclimating well to Roberts’ methods. “Kumail responded very quickly — as most people do — when introduced to training that shocks the system, whether it be for fat loss or muscle gain or — as in Kumail’s case — both.”

Roberts stressed the importance of proper nutrition during training. “In Kumail’s case, you need ample amounts of all the essential nutrients with special focus on protein, water, healthy fats (primarily omega 3) and just enough carbs without spilling over.”

As the training process got down to the wire, Roberts and Nanjiani put on the finishing touches by making nutritional adjustments to get him “cut and vascular without losing muscle mass.”

“Kumail left for London a little over eight months after we began for stunt training and then to commence filming,” Roberts revealed. “As such, it was important that Kumail arrive in London camera ready and with the nutrition plan to maintain his shape for camera consistency throughout the coming months. Sadly, Marvel didn’t want to pay to bring me over to London to continue our training and nutrition.”

The former bodybuilding champ went on to say that Marvel was actually taken aback by Nanjiani’s progress by July, when the cast debuted their superhero characters at Comic Con. The actor was apparently getting “too big and too cut,” which led them to slow things down a bit and focus on “a slightly smaller yet still lean and vascular version of him.”

As far as maintenance, Roberts understands that our bodies have a tendency to work against our goals, often storing excess body fat, “as a pre-programmed mechanism from the days of famine,” he revealed. “Maintenance requires working out hard enough to keep everything from atrophying and consuming a maintenance diet of just the right amount of essential water, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals while keeping non-essential carbohydrates in check.”

Nanjiani has received plenty of praise since revealing his hard-earned body on Instagram, including a $15K offer to host a party at Sapphire Gentleman’s Club. Other’s disapproved of his glow-up, believing the funnyman may lose a bit of his geeky charm as a hot Marvel character.

For those who are working to achieve a Kumail-esque look, being mentally prepared for the journey is one aspect of transforming the body Roberts feels is often overlooked.

“The decision to get in shape is exactly that — a decision spawned by the brain,” Grant asserts. “Your ability to create and adhere to a realistic program design [comes from] — you guessed it — the brain. Intelligent program design includes achievable landmarks and checkpoints while leaving room for modifications, whether results are ahead or behind schedule. I don’t know who originally said it, but I think it is best summed up with this quote; ‘If you don’t like who you are — change your mind.’”

I mean he doesn't mention all the steroids, but that's none of my business.

    AxDemon:
Dude has two years, Marvel studios money, and an army of personal trainers and nutritionists. Do you think that it’s simply not possible for someone to get buff without steroids, or are you just accusing him of being lazy to make yourself feel better about your own shortcomings?

    CaptOtter:
It’s an easy way to dismiss something without having to learn much or anything about fitness, nutrition, and conditioning. “Everyone who has achieved anything worthwhile cheated” is the motto of the lazy hater.
