    So I did a post wondering about how all of this would affect the future of the economy and I got some responses that are really helpful about all this. I am just the minimalist writer and as a whole I have not been affected by the COVID-19 situation as most others. I had to expand from status post into a forum post since I felt I was going into the rambling zone. COVID-19 only messed up my travel plans, vacation and convention visits and stuff I had planned for May into July. I wanted to go see how places were in Florida before I thought about moving since my lease where I reside currently will be done by late August into September. I been here for a few years and I wanna trying something new. I don't like the cold weather so I really don't want to even go anywhere up North.

    I was wondering if this whole virus thing would make prices skyrocket later this year into 2021 and if planning a move this year should be postponed in my previous status and got some information about the situation from other members.

    This made me curious as to how the situation would affect things in the future as far as personal plans since before this whole virus thing started I was planning on moving to a place where I felt my writing would suit my relaxation/lifestyle needs..(like a beach town in Florida or something chill but with "festive" nightlife, good LGBTQ scene and what not..). Lol, I am trying to "retire to write" and live comfortably close to tranquility but nothing fancy but around gay and bi men. Ever since my last year post about wanting to be self-employed/contractor, I made it my mission to become financially independent and live comfortably how I wanted. I already dont require much to be satisfied. Relatively simple..etc. I want to have at least 8k saved by this June and I know that it's not a lot by today's standards but it's a start for me. Im not interesting in Texas or Georgia and definitely not Mississippi (or as I call it, Miss Pissy), thought about staying in NOLA but Florida seems like it is chill. Obviously Im not trying to live in Miami or New York since it costs an arm and a leg just to breath in those places.

    I figure I need to be in a chill area, exposed to more similar and predominately gay and bi environment and see different things than where I am at now. I also feel it will make at least come out of my shell a lot more. Meeting some new people might help that. It might also give me more initiative to have a healthy sexual lifestyle. I know it sounds weird that I say that but I be having long periods of abstinence sometimes which didn't work well for past affections. I'm not looking to get married or anything but I don't mind a sexually-charged relationship with one guy...I just don't want the whole..marriage stuff the straights delight in. However, this not a main goal, it is just an amenity to my lifestyle of simplicity. I'm much rather focused on saving and taking steps carefully and finding a new shell.

    What's crazy is I have been meditating on moving from Texas at the top of next year and just started researching jobs in different cities/states. You are in a different boat being a writer and working for yourself.
    Small businesses are fucked for the most party. Big corporations will be ok, like they always are. The only way I think this will get worse if this continues throughout the Summer to the Fall. Then it might be an all-out revolution.

    Oh lord....

    Writing is my love but I do independent work and still make a decent amount to pay all my bills and food. I'd love to be able to move somewhere to just chill and write though...since I am a more relaxed type. I feel the beach area is calling my name outside of hurricane season..lol

    @Jai:

    I would definitely look into additional ways to make income through web-based work. Sites like Upwork.com are useful and there are tons of content writing jobs on sites like simplyhired.com and others. You'd simply want to select "remote" for location when you do your search. I think that this is a really good thing that you are working now to think about your financial future during all of this. I am doing the same. I have been listening to a lot of finance podcasts. The need for remote workers may increase as companies have to shut down offices and seek to replace full-time furloughed workers with independent contractors. Working online might be your advantage.

    While you are concerned that prices will skyrocket, all evidence points to the inverse. I think that prices for car, apartments and even housing will go down dramatically. As many people can no longer afford rents and mortgages and people who can afford it but are fearful sell their house and belongings, you may encounter a housing market that has unusual deals. If unemployment numbers continue to skyrocket and if there is no immediate medical intervention and no government income provided to the general public, experts predict that we could go from a recession to full-blown financial depression.

    Interesting information. I do have steady online work for now through contracting and I will keep it up. I deadset said this year before this Covid-19 mess I wanted a retreat house...a beach house to be in a place I could be at peace and write/do novelist work.

    Man, if prices went down on something like a place near a warm beach town..I'd be jumping up and down.

    So then I have to keep an eye on any financial breakthroughs, as I said I only have a few thousand saved but I don't want to chunk it all over to an expensive place or anything like that. My current plan involves me paying my rent and bills near the beginning of the month for the next month like I always do and set some money aside for savings. Ive been thinking hard on this since I first got advice on here about taking the leap to self employment and I'm glad I did.

    Covid-19 ain't done a lick of damage to me. Now all I gotta do is keep saving and laying low while wearing a medical mask like a ninja. Keeping my fingers crossed my plans take root.

    I enjoy hearing from the members who are or have gained and acquired financial security on here.

    Most are probably in their 50s and have been through much worse than this.

    What is crazy is that even though people are getting the $600, it will most likely get spent quickly because of their high rent, food costs, kids and their multiple Onlyfans subscriptions.

    You're right about so much of this. I also had a solid plan to get a winter place in either South Florida or Southern California. I may still fo it. I came across a really excellent video about Covid-19 and the likely impacts on all areas of real estate. It's one of the most detailed discussions I've heard:

    I'd also love to hear from any other guy here about finances. I actually am not sure the members of this site are 50+actually.
