Since, I usually keep to myself, I went to Fort Lauderdale by myself and I plan to do more solo traveling this year for my 2021 travel fest. (I know, I have sex appeal, nice body, and creativity, blah-blah and I still choose to remain single and keep to myself..) It's just a personal conquest of mine.

One thing I found interesting in Fort Lauderdale on my vacation...was that when I went out, I was literally like one of few black men out there on Wilton Drive. Everyone else was white, (old or twink, etc). As I was walking through the nightlife scene on Wilton Drive, there were a lot of eyes drifting in my direction as I passed tables and groups of white gay guys congregating together. There were no hostile looks or anything and even if there were, I was too busy looking in my phone looking at the GPS tracker to notice most of them...lol

In fact, I've never been around so many gay men in a very long time, but I've never been around so many white gay men together in one setting either.

I couldn't tell what their looks were geared toward but I did feel a little awkward but that's mostly due to my social anxiety. Yet, everywhere I turned, there was literally no African American men in sight. I think I ended up seeing like 4 more black guys (out of probably a 100+ or so non-Black men) out as I patrolled Wilton Drive in my fitted V-neck shirt, and ripped fitted shorts, dressed like I came out of Express and Hollister magazine. I did go shopping there and got the fitted shirt from Express but the other clothes I brought were from one of their gay stores.

I went to a bar restaurant and ordered some food and sat at a table by myself, looking around and observing others, periodically checking my phone text messages and watch. I finally finished eating and then left.

Anyways, I remember passing these two guys while walking down the Drive who at least looked like they were "white" but I'll just say they didn't look like African American men. Not sure if they were Latino or what.

I kind of have to remind myself not to walk like a lost tourist but I be in my own world sometimes.

The two guys pass me and one of them says, "You look really hot. Even beautiful."

I told him thank you for the compliment as I kept walking and he shouted, "This guy walking with me is my friend, not my lover. Don't worry too much. I love me some chocolate, baby!"

I kind of laughed anxiously and kept walking until I took shelter in a sex store where I was ogled for not wearing a mask.

Somehow I eneded up talking to a black guy who works there who happened to be LGBTQ obviously. He invited me to another place after I told him I'm not from Ft. Laudey. He goes on to say, "You're probably walking around and wondering why you're not seeing anyone else like you."

I understood what he meant but still laughed anxiously. I then kind of dug deeper wondering where the Black or other Men of color where in the city if this is supposed to be the gayest

He then told me about another area and then he goes on to say they need to boycott Wilton Drive.

I had heard that Fort Lauderdale was very gay accepting and gay friendly. You could see guys holding hands and kissing but I didn't see really any Black men at all doing this. It made me wonder about all the areas where Black men and Men of Color are the majority in the gay scene in other states.

This one cool white I guy I met before I went to Wilton Drive told me I was gonna get laid and to bring lots of condoms. However, I told him that I'm not down here to have sex with anyone and that any advances from any of those dudes would not be met with approval. I'm just here to see new places and stuff.

He laughed and said, "Okay, don't forget the condoms. You'll get hit up on the apps."

I told him I dont use Grindr or Jackd. He laughed and called me Fresh.

I think he was thinking I was very new to the gay scene in a way.. I've used the apps before in the past...lol

I even downloaded Grindr recently to see if anything has changed in my current hometown and ummmm...no it hasnt...lol

In any case, I had no sex with anyone there or anything in Ft. LAUDEY. I guess he found it hard to understand that I was just exploring and by "looking" for other gay or bi men I meant getting to know people outside of my state, not sleeping with them. Lol. These trips are too expand my knowledge of the world and see how Black gay men function in other areas...etc. That doesn't mean I wouldn't accidently fall into a phine man's lap or anything...just not why I'm there..lol

However, that did not stop me from shopping for adult things. I asked about and brought very gay undies and even a pair of backless underwear but all that stuff is so pricey. I even asked about the harnesses I saw since I didn't know much about them but they were pricey too. I've seen them a few times in porn films or on gay movies, so I thought they looked interesting.

I think I had a decent time eating out, exploring the beach, and mall, which is all I mostly did during my 4 day stay.

I have another trip planned in the future but haven't decided yet even though I've received suggestions and what not.

I enjoyed your narrative. I haven't been out in a long time. But I know that yt gays and black gays often live in two completely different worlds.

"The two guys pass me and one of them says, 'You look really hot. Even beautiful.' "

An awkwardly stated sort-of-compliment that, as I read it, I heard it being said with Snagglepuss's voice, lol

    Travel on, McDuff ...

I've heard of Snagglepuss before but I have no idea who McDuffie is? Lol.

It was so awkward, especially when he mentions he likes "chocolate".

    I ran away quickly.

White gays in many "Gayborhoods" across the country have a history of marginalizing and not being very welcoming to black gays.

My friend and I took a trip to LA a few years back and he suggested that we go check out the shops, restaurants and bars in West Hollywood (a super gayborhood). While perusing the businesses on the main strip, we noticed nothing but gay white men everywhere (eating outside on the patio, walking by etc) and they all just stared at us. At first, I thought it was because they assumed we were straight since my friend and are masculine guys.

Then I observed two masculine white dudes walking in the same vicinity and noticed that they weren't getting the same rude stares that my friend and I got. My friend looked at me and sarcastically said "We black bro." We both just busted out laughing in spite of the cold reception we were receiving.

We walked into this men's clothing store and the two gay white men who were working there were no different as they never greeted us upon entering nor asked us if we needed help finding anything. We looked at clothing for a few more minutes before deciding to leave.

When we got outside, I told my friend that I ain't about to give these racist queens a penny of my hard earned money. I was hungry and wanted a few drinks but there was no way I was patronizing any establishment in West Hollywood. The collective unwelcoming nature of the gay white community there was far too blatant for my taste.

That's interesting to hear. I felt that way at times too. When I went to Wilton Creamery, I walked in and although, they weren't outright rude, they seemed a little strange. I was the only Black guy walking this strip that I saw that evening. I figured around this time, more of the men would be out and I was right but not Black men. I didn't see very many Hispanic either (dark skinned ones). No one was outright rude but it is like something you can feel from certain people or groups.

I went into a LGBTQ store, the one were I brought the underwear and they didn't seem extremely receptive or asked if I needed help with anything. The white guy who I was with introduced me and they kinda nodded. There was one Black guy who worked there, and he kinda nodded too. I figured it might be like this because they were much older than I was (or I convinced myself that was it.)

It's really wild how things are sometimes if you ask me. I hear it is like this in certain places overseas in China or somewhere.

But yeah, that other Black guy I met who worked in another store didn't laugh at all when he said, "We're boycotting Wilton Manors."

I guess he saw I was genuinely confused as to why I am the only Black person walking the strip.

Now that you mention West Hollywood, I heard it was super gay. Crazy how they acted though. Now when I read stuff online about gay places or neighborhoods, I'll check who is actually speaking.

Going back over some of the photos of the clubs and restaurants posted for the groups in Fort Lauderdale, I didn't see any Black people (except 1 or 2) in their popular and well-known spots.

I did hear most Black gay men (the elites) live in D.C. Then there is Atlanta, which they say is very gay and Black. I went to a website that has the best places in the U.S. to go if you're a gay or bi man. It's at the top of the list. However, I went to check the demographics of these places online as well.

8 Best Gay Vacation Destinations in the USA.

    Provincetown, Massachusetts - White (Non-Hispanic) (88.3%)

    Fort Lauderdale, Florida - White (Non-Hispanic) (47.7%)

    San Francisco, California - White (Non-Hispanic) (45.2%)

Looking over the Forbes site. They have the 5 Best States for Gay Travelers.

    Washington - 69.3% White
    Minnesota - White: 82.85%

I'm only genuinely talking about travel in USA for now until I'm ready to go to other places in the not to future.

No Atlanta or Washington D.C. on any of the current lists.

Id have to put in Best places to go for Black gay men.

I found this site, which I bookmarked for future guidance.

    MacDuff is from Shakespeare's "Macbeth"

And on the other end of the cultural spectrum, Snagglepuss was the Billy Porter of early Hanna Barbera characters...

It's not that deep, don't let Instagram fool you. Was at the gay part of Miami Beach a couple of years ago, all body types there. You'd enjoy yourself. Dudes were more concerned about straight couples noticing the gay beach was less concentrated and gentrifying (as usual).
