Based on our recent interaction on the profile post; I think you are correct in that he was doing masculine drag to possibly launch his career. This was a fantastic business strategy and he recently said he has been working over 9 months on his new relaunch strategy. I can't wait to hear his new music. Now that he has successfully entered into the mainstream, he is being his true self. Which of course is good for him and those who also may be struggling with living their true selves. I forgot about his costume from last Halloween.

Ricky Martin it seems is starting to do the same.

As I've stated in a previous post, I'm so happy that Gen-Z has an artist as open as Lil Nas X. I find his bravery to do the things he's done and not back down from the backlash to be quite commendable, even if I disagree with many of his recent aesthetic and artistic choices...

When I read his Twitter feed... it brings me joy. I'm ready for his new album to drop though.

But why do "most" people seem to love/respect Lil Nas X and give him props but hate Frank Ocean? I don't get it. I would think people would boost Frank as he is more masc leaning which is what we say is missing from black gay representation.

I've said my reasoning for this in a recent profile post:

That pretentious coming out letter on Tumblr, the pretentious music, the pretentious social media presence, the predominantly melanin-free circle that he surrounds himself with...Frank Ocean may be "masc leaning" but he comes across as if he thinks he's better and/or more "important" than the rest of us. It may just be the artsy vibe that he gives off.

On the other hand, while Lil Nas X is more attention seeking, he's less precious about his sexuality and masters the art of self deprecation which humanizes him more. He comes across as a guy we've all seen and interacted with at a party or club (and probably still would in the future).

Nas X comes across as the type of guy who would have been a Squad Member on this site.

Frank seems like he would have exclusively frequented on Out.com.

    Just my humble opinion.

I can understand that reasoning Frank just seems to be a very private person which is the definition of discreet to me. He's always come across as the artsy, private awkward kid that would probably have social anxiety. Although some of Frank's earlier music was more black leaning, he's definitely gained more traction with white audiences lately. I can't say that black folk are really following either of them that closely honestly. Black gay men are fixated on female rappers at the moment so both guys are relying on white audiences for their super. I think this makes them be a little more "white presenting" in their art and style.

This is a good observation. However there's a fine between "private" and "stuck up." Frank gives me the latter. Again, just my opinion, never met him so just going off of the little that's been presented in the media.

Now if we're talking real life, appearance and demeanor wise, FO is definitely more the type of dude that I would want to meet up with for a drink or something.

Yeah, I don't really get the stuck up vibe from him. To me, he's NOT the gay Lakeith Stanfield, who I imagine is much more normal than how he presents himself publicly. From everyone who has known and spoken of Frank before fame, he was always that weird kid and I think he's probably just much more guarded after becoming famous. From all appearances, Frank is the one who has remained more consistent in his demeanor of the two.

Also, I just think Frank still is looked at side-eye cause he hasn't actually declared his gayness and lived openly like Lil Nas X. I think people are low-key frustrated that he still doesn't talk about his love life or post his boyfriends all over social media. Maybe there's some animosity because he's seen as straddling the fence so to speak. Sometimes being guarded comes off as superiority a la Beyonce. Everyone knows that once you do come out fully as a black gay famous man, you move over the Lil Nas X side anyway and become flamboyant. I respect them both because I think both are being exactly who they want to be. I can imagine being more like Frank if I were famous as that's how I am now. Private I mean but not awkward. LOL

When Lil Nas X first came out, I had no suspicions (or interest) in his sexuality. I haven’t seen it in a while but I don’t remember any girls or love interests in the Old Town Road video. When his nudes leaked, I was curious but I was like this kid is too young & skinny for me to be looking at him this way. When he came out I was tickled to death and proud. I thought he was really brave. When I saw on a blog that he was a closeted Nicki stan, I thought “I see where this is going”. I love that he’s brave enough to be himself and that he’s still finding success. It may not seem like it but these extremes in the images, performances and expressing who he is as loudly as his heterosexual counterparts do is normalization. This kid is making it where the next generation of lgbtqia+ artists will have a much easier time. He has the talent and drive to back it up. I’m 46 so admittedly I squirm a little bit when I watch his videos but it’s beautiful to see a black gay man doing these things nonetheless.

OAN, to see T.I. Da Baby, Boosie and others equate living while gay to being in the same lane as homophobic hate speech is sickening. As Mike Tyson told Boosie, your obsession with gay men and gay sex must have a deeper meaning because it’s got you way too pressed.
