Black folk on the internet always mesmerize me. So if a boy shows an interest in cooking he's soft.

Bobby Flay got an Easy Bake oven and an GI Joe at 8 yrs old. The majority of cooks in the military, in the food industry and in restaurants are male chefs. Women even complain about sexism and patriarchy within the industry. The fact that this behavior (cooking) is considered 'soft' in boys doesn't make logical sense to me in a male dominated profession. To try to correct a behavior (self reliance) that is in itself a healthy characteristic of being a man / masculinity also makes no logical sense to me.

After reading additional POVs online, you know I actually agree with both sides. If my son came to me and said he wanted an Easy Bake oven, I would ask him why? If his response is "because I want to learn how to cook", then I would say that's perfect, we don't need a play set, we got a real life whole kitchen right here. From that point, I wouldn't just began to teach him how to cook in the kitchen but also on the grill out back. AND we teaching on how to clean up when we're done. I think this coupled with the male bonding would be way more beneficial than a play set.

Agreed. A better way to get to the same outcome. I love cooking and my dad would always bring me outside when him when he would use the grille and teach me different stuff that I still use to this day. I can't think of any real like skills to be gained from an easy bake oven.
