I'm one of those people who really enjoys anime. So I've brought y'all a good taste of both mainstream and non-mainstream, long-running shows with several hundred episodes and short 25 to 50 episodes at most shows. Enjoy!

I didn't expect the jewel to be a life force itself, but yeah the ending was cool. As for Kiba... It was a really mystical show. It has a lot of good fights too. The main character kinda does have the same color scheme as Inuyasha now that I think about it.

 

Ah, what! Been waiting on a post like this!!! I'm going to recycle my list from a previous thread but change out bleach since it has a fair amount of representation lol (It's my favorite though!)

#3 Favorite Yaoi So far...Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi
First Gay themed anime I ever watched. I liked it...the animation style could be better but the characters were interesting to observe in slice of life style show.


#2 Favorite New(ish) Anime... Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma
OMG You have to watch this Anime! ! Sooo Outrageous...takes the phrase "food porn" literally

Observations...
When I have read/heard this conversation among blacks and anime (past & present), the subject matter never comes up concerning the lack of color or ethnic representations in anime. Like I can't recall a Latino or Hispanic character in an anime series. Another thing is the anime that catered to black folk (Afro Samurai) is never mentioned on black folks anime favorite lists. I've seen more white people give it props than black people.

Personally I thought it was great and similar faults that some had with Afro Samurai seemed to be over looked in other anime.

 

You're quite right! Anime rarely caters to Black folk, even though a large number of my close Black and educated friends watch anime... In terms of Samurai, this show was really my only exposure.

I always thought of this character, Mugen, as Black... Though looking back on it, he probably wasn't actually black.


Still though, I do love when Black characters appear in mainstream anime. One badass Black female character is Yoruichi from Bleach. She's like my fave from that show!

Chad from Bleach is the only Hispanic Anime character I can think of,

that's part of the reason I like it so much, the has alittle more diversity then alot of others from its time. I went to Momocon (an anime, comic, videogame convention in ATL) and make it a point to go to a Black Characters in Anime panel this black guy along with his white best friend held. Everyone had a blast (mostly black folks and a few curious white people) and he showed us all kinds of clips of characters in anime that are "black"

The problem I and many others had, however was that many of these characters are actually just ethically ambiguous at times or simply have tan skin...Rarely do you come across a distinctively black or minority.



And those that are usually stereotypical....


This lack of diversity is also a bit of a problem with black cosplayers as well. I would love to cosplay but I refuse to be a non-black character until I've gone through the black ones lol I've told my cosplaying friend this a few times. Long story short, they're out there...most are just hard to find..but I've discovered alot of good animes just searching for black characters.

Gay, trans, and straight friendly

Also The blog Black Nerd problems usually talk about anime and there lack of diversity as well as highlight anime and Magi that have diverse cast.

OMG I remember ronin warriors! Used to come on toonami in the afternoon...Corpse Party is Saaaaaavvaage! I couldn't handle it!
That and Elfian Lied were waay too gory for me lol I'm a whimp! I actually enjoyed Deadman Wonderland though...

 

This was quite possibly the funniest show I've ever encountered! It's old school and from the same creator as InuYasha. It came out before InuYasha, but it's hilarious!

I'm running an anime/manga club afterschool once a week. Second year in a row and at the end of the year we go on a trip to get Japanese food and go to the bookstore in Manhattan. So it's good to reprogram my brain since I quite honestly do not watch it on my own accord.

I'm so glad that someone else is into Ronin Warriors, that was definitely in my list of loves back in the day hahaha.

Just found out this cool Anime from Facebook the other day (Crunchyroll ads keep popping up) called Kiznaiver.

Some other shows that I fell in love with before I took an Anime Hiatus were:

Samurai Champloo (Although the ending was a bit of a let down, the series is definitely one of the best)


GANTZ (The anime is only 2 seasons long and cuts away from the Manga)

 

I could have sworn I posted in this but anywho. The only anime I watch is fantasy based or adventure.
Sailor Moon is my favorite along with Cutey Honey. I also like Yu Yu Hakusho, Samarai Troppers (Ronin Warriors) and the original Dragon Ball series.

I avoid really gory anime but have seen some before.
