So I just recently and randomly won a copy of the movie BLACKBIRD written by Patrik Ian Polk starring Mo'Nique and Isaiah Thomas. Has anyone seen the movie? I'd love to hear your opinions on it before watching it as an overall quality of the movie type of thing.
I watched this on Netflix, the storyline was definitely nothing new, but it was definitely well done. I can't lie I cried at the end, but it a typical coming of age story.
I enjoyed it overall. The sound editing wasn't that great (low dialogue, loud music, and when people sang it was clear they were dubbing from a studio.) Monique was the weakest link for me; it seems like she doesn't know how to play subdued so everything came off forced or unintentionally funny.
I enjoyed it very much! It definitely deserves what the French @ Cannes Festival call "un certain régard". It provided a fresh new take on religion and homosexuality in black culture. I can't lie; I rewinded and cried at the last scene when Todd appeared in randy's dreams. Btw, it is now on Netflix. I rented it on Amazon Instant video the DAY before it was dropped on Netflix...smh...that's okay tho I don't mind paying for black filmmakers at all. In fact, I always try to buy/rent black-made movies. Always supporting the movement the best I can
I just finished watching it. And coming from a religious background, I absolutely relate to this. Especially after he had sex and all the crying. My first time was with a guy unlike the main character in the movie, But I remember crying and praying cause I thought I had committed the ultimate sin and God was mad at me.
I actually liked the movie i wish that it had a little bit more story development with some characters, but i loved it overall.
Saw it yesterday actually and did not enjoy it at all. The acting was subpar and it was too predictable. I get the message but I thought the delivery was poor. Just my opinion. I think Pariah was much better.
I haven't seen it because I don't care much for Polks film writing. I'll check it out tonight on Netflix.
I will have to check it out. The whole movie in full is on YouTube lol. After these exams are over with then I will check it out.
I watched Blackbird over the weekend and thought it was decent. At first I was really feeling it but I stuck with it. It was decently produced and the acting was good. Story a little corny for my taste but I would recommend it.
Before watching this movie, I expecting this film to be as heavy as "Rivers Wash Over Me" or "Strange fruit". To my surprise, it was pretty light. I enjoyed it
"Blackbird" was overall good, I like how it had the roles switch where the father was more accepting, than the mother. This movie also touch on how the person holding you back from coming out and being true to yourself, is not others but you.
