Chris Rock's Oscar Monologue

He was fine. Overall. Lackluster Oscars though.

 

I had mixed feelings about the monologue. He said some great things BUT
A few of his of lines I had an issue with:

"Jada is going to boycott the Oscars — Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited."

Actually I'm pretty sure Jada and Will were invited. I'm not comfortable with him throwing them under the bus. It was unnecessary.

"I’m sure there were no black nominees some of those years. Say ‘62 or ‘63, and black people did not protest.Why? Because we had real things to protest at the time, you know? We had real things to protest; you know, we’re too busy being raped and lynched to care about who won best cinematographer."

This was THE biggest applause line by the white audience in attendance. Chris Rock appeased the white liberal audience implying that #Oscarswhite is at the top of black folks list. White crowd agrees and basically says why don't you negros find something else to complain about. I think black folks can protest more than one thing at a time. I think Police brutality has been a big issue we've been protesting lately.

"Think about it: There’s no real reason for there to be a man and a woman category in acting."

Actually there is a need for a best man and woman category. If not it would just be white men nominated. The diversity issue would be even worse and seep into gender. They already got a race issue.

Other issues I had

1.Tracy Morgan in a dress eating cornbread
2. Stacy Dash
3. The Suge Knight bit

Overall I give Chris Rock a C.

 

I agree. The Stacy Dash enter and exit was a slap in the face towards real progression. I also didn't like the short's especially the ones with Whoopi in them. It was like a updated of Celie.
