Columbus Short Producing Gospel Version Of ‘Empire’...With Kim Burrell Acting As Music Producer

For all the Christians turned off by the gay action, raunchy music and secular ideals on Fox’s hit series, Empire, an alternative is on the way.

Former Scandal star, Columbus Short, 32, has confirmed that a gospel version of the wildly popular show is in the works.

During an interview with Shadow and Act, Short said he and his brother, Bounce TV President Ryan Glover, along with Russ Parr and Swirl Films, are producing the program.

“We're producing a show that's basically the gospel Empire. It's going to be full of drama and great music,” said the actor, who lost his gig on another monster television hit, Scandal, last year.

Short got into a nasty bar brawl and was dogged by damaging domestic abuse allegations. Later, he admitted that abuse of cocaine and alcohol to his recklessness.

Nowadays, he’s working to put all that behind him and throw his energy into new projects, like the faith-focused Empire.

So far, the cast has not been revealed, although, according to Short, Stellar and Dove Award-winning gospel vocalist Kim Burrell will act as executive music producer.

It remains to be seen whether or not the public has a voracious appetite for a blend of gospel and drama.
