Are there any albums that you can say are meaningful to you and are connected to certain eras of your life?

This album was a defining moment in my life as it was during this time that I fully came to terms with my attraction towards the same sex.

definitely also one of the albums that made fall in love with the late King of Pop

Celine Dion was all the craze in French speaking Africa during her rise to stardom. You guys can't believe how much of her music we listened to. She made me love French, and the "Chanson Française".

Don't even get me started on what happens when I bring up instrumental compositional music or like more indie or alternative stuff.Basically if it wasn't on the radio this year no one knows what the hell I'm talking about.

See you knew it was already coming from the last post on the rules thread LOL but seriously...I know Cypher Avenue was partially created to discussion things in hip hop and I like it!! but if I were to be honest about the albums that impacted me...
Butterfly is an album I listened to in its entirety just year or so ago and it touches on such a fragile/meaningful point in the Mariah Carey's life that I can feel her sentiment clear as I was/still am going though a similar period. Her vocals and songwriting ability are unmatched by any of her "contemporaries" now. Her song "Outside" is sums up perfectly how I felt about being gay for a while and other songs just spoke to me.

If there was only one Sade album you ever listened to this has to be it! I listened to Promise back in late April of this year when I was going through a very hard time and it blew me away. I even came out to my mom after listening to this album...first person in my life after 22 years.. so full of raw emotion and musical imagery in songs like Is it a Crime or War of Hearts, Her band is amazing!!!

Lol I have more but I don't want to boring you guys...these are the two I've heard most recently that actually stood out to me... I have to look up your pick though Dre as I listen to all kinds of music as well! I would really like to start exploring more genres anyway.

Many of the album cuts on this record really coincided with what was going on in my life between 2008 and 2011 during my first three years of college. The album just spoke about life, universal honesty, the human experience, etc. Stuff that I could truly relate to.

I listen to primarily R&B but I cannot relate to the life experiences about being in love, sex, dating, relationship, etc but I can connect with the emotions because we all understand love between friends and family, pain from loss or a bad experience or whatever.

But yeah one day you will see me post albums from people like Maxwell or Alicia Keys when they talk about those things like being in love, sex, relationships, etc.

I'm not sure if Brandy has ever made a song I didn't like.
As far as not having those eact experience,I think htat's irrelavant when it comes to music. As long as you connect to the over all energy and vibe then that song has meaning for you.Same as how we all liked a love song or two when we were young and had never felt romantic love.Music transcends the lyrics.

This album reminds me of my childhood. My mom had this on cassette tape, and it was one of those that we played over and over for years.
A couple of months ago I re-discovered this album on spotify and still knew like every word to every song. This song reminds me of the good ole days when I didn't have a care in the world.
I think now that I am an adult, I appreciate the album so much more because I have a better understanding of the lyrics, and with my life experiences I can connect with all the songs about life and love and stuff like that.

It is hilarious that @African King posted this album. First off all I never expected to see any "masculine" guys say they listen to Brandy. @DreG I have to agree with you even if you've never connected via experience you connect on the vibe. Second, being a HUGE Brandy fan, I have a lot of songs that I love that I connect to that I have never come close to experiencing the feeling. Finally, this album is on rotation in my car right now. If I go a day without listening to a Brandy song, which I don't think I've done in a long while, my day is NOT RIGHT!

If l had to choose a defining album it would be 1994's Mary J. Blige "My Life" I could listen to that entire album without skipping a track. This album had such a great impact on my life and is the reason l sing today. I miss music like this where you could listen to a whole album without skipping a track or two.

A "masculine" guy posting about the connection to the music from Brandy... What is that supposed to mean exactly @bisonboy? I think that at the end of the day, there are many songs I enjoy from male artists and female artists in the R&B and other related genres. A masculine man should have the right to enjoy music from Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Brandy or whatever just as much as a feminine man can enjoy music from Drake, Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole. It is all about what you connect to. I've come across both kinds of men like what I've mentioned in this post I wrote here.

But your listening to Brandy pretty much everyday is awesome because she is an amazing vocalist! Again, whatever moves you and gets you going.

Is there really a better album than Off The Wall? Nothing better than a 21 year old Michael Jackson. Artistic perfection. The perfect combination of talent and training. A child prodigy mentored by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and Berry Gordy. This album is my motherfu**** JAM. The Quincy/Michael collaboration is one of the best in history. This album is the blueprint. All 10 songs. MJ never had album fillers. Get on the floor and Can't help it are some of my underrated favorites.[IMG]

My brother THANK YOU. She has influenced so many people from Rihanna (3rd album of hers was heavily inspired by Brandy's 4th record, 'Afrodesiac') to the Red Hot Chili Peppers (she inspired several guitar riffs in their songs).

Music is for everyone and there is nothing wrong with a masculine man liking a female singer. There is nothing wrong with a feminine man only jamming rap. It all exists!
