Michael B. Jordan's Kryptonian-focused series lands a title and a pair of writers.

Deadline reports that the HBO Max series starring Jordan first announced in July will be called Val-Zod, confirming its focus on the Kryptonian hero. Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters will write the limited series. The pair recently penned the script for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which wrapped production last week.

Val-Zod was created by Tom Taylor, Nicola Scott, and Robson Rocha and first appeared in 2014's Earth 2 #19. Set in an alternate universe separate from the New 52's Prime-Earth. Earth-2 had its own version of Kal-El/Clark Kent who served as Superman, but he was believed to have died in the planet's first war with Apokolips. When Krypton was near destruction, Jor-El and Lara-El sent Val-Zod to Earth as they did with Kal-El and Kara Zor-El. But Val wound up stuck traveling in his pod for a very long time. He eventually came to Earth, discovered his powers, and became a new version of Superman.

The first indication that Val-Zod would join the DCEU came in February when word broke that Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams are working on a Superman project focused on a Black Man of Steel. In May, however, it was revealed that the new Superman film would involve a Black Kal-El rather than Val-Zod.

Warner Bros. continues to expand its slate of DC films and television shows, moving further away from the idea of a shared universe in the process. There's no word if Val-Zod will take place in a cinematic Earth-2, though there have been indications that Matt Reeves' The Batman will take place on the world. The main DCEU, loosely built around Justice League, is now somewhat separate from Zack Snyder's own parallel vision. And The Joker similarly exists in an unknown corner of the multiverse. As for the upcoming Batgirl and Blue Beetle films, along with Coates and Abrams' new Superman project, it's unclear where they'll slot into things. But with the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover teasing that all DC projects exist in an ever-expanding multiverse, perhaps it doesn't matter.

Starring Michael B. Jordan, Val-Zod does not yet have a release date on HBO Max.
