    Crime writer John Grisham has said America is unjustly jailing too many citizens for viewing child pornography. In an interview with The Telegraph, Grisham, who earned $17 million last year and tied for 6th place in Forbes' ranking of top-earning authors, attacked the widespread incarceration of those who watch child porn.

    "We have prisons now filled with guys my age. Sixty-year-old white men in prison who've never harmed anybody, would never touch a child," he told The Telegraph's Peter Foster in an interview to promote his latest novel, Gray Mountain.

    "But they got online one night and started surfing around, probably had too much to drink or whatever, and pushed the wrong buttons, went too far and got into child porn."

    Grisham, who is well known for legal thrillers such as A Time to Kill and The Firm, has sold more than 275 million copies since his 1989 debut. Grisham first joined Forbes' top-earning author ranking in 2000, with a $36 million annual paycheck. He has made an estimated $200 million before taxes and fees in the last 14 years.

    "I have no sympathy for real pedophiles,” he said, speaking to The Telegraph from his office in Charlottesville, Virginia. "God, please lock those people up. But so many of these guys do not deserve harsh prison sentences, and that's what they're getting."

    "There's so many 'sex offenders' - that's what they're called - that they put them in the same prison. Like they're a bunch of perverts... We've gone nuts with this incarceration," he added, citing an anecdote of a law-school pal who he says accidentally viewed porn that was apparently incorrectly labelled as child porn.

    The U.S. has the world's largest prison population, with about 2.2 million adults behind bars. Close to a quarter of the world's prisoners are held within American prisons; the U.S. accounts for just 5% of the world's population.

    According to a 2012 report by the U.S. Sentencing Commision, in the last decade average sentences for those who possess but do not produce child pornography have nearly doubled in the US, from 54 months in 2004 to 95 months in 2010. Commission data also shows that virtually all offenders (96.3%) possess images of minors who were prepubescent or under 12 years of age.

    In a statement, Grisham apologized and said he regretted his comments, explaining: "Anyone who harms a child for profit or pleasure, or who in any way participates in child pornography—online or otherwise—should be punished to the fullest extent of the law."

    "My comments made two days ago during an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph were in no way intended to show sympathy for those convicted of sex crimes, especially the sexual molestation of children. I can think of nothing more despicable."

    Grisham, whose 2013 release Sycamore Row sold over 1 million copies last year, also pens children's books in the Theodore Boone series, which follows a vivacious, young wannabe-lawyer.

    So check'it...

    I really wanted to get on the "Dark Web" one night just to see what all the youtube hubbub was about. ALL the post I saw with instructions on 'how to' do it came with dire warnings that stated in a nutt shell, anything you click on while on the dark web could be child porn. I was like oh hell naw.

    As much porn as I have viewed, how does one end up mistakenly viewing child porn? Even the most disgusting 'rotten' sites don't have child porn on it.

    While I agree logically with the click bait head line..the making of said videos has / is hurting children and they're victims. So regardless, a crime IS still being committed simply by watching said videos.

    How did Mr. Grisham even end up on this topic in the first place.????????

    Reliable porn sites like pornhub dont allow current content even to be searched for on their sites. They have a whole tech staff that works to edit their websites.
    So I don't understand his reasoning.:fakenews::ravetho:
    :maxine::ufdup:
    But I would say though that some sites ie flavaworks might need to be investigated cause some of them models........lets just say need to eat a double cheeseburger.100dap

    Well if you accidentally came upon 'child porn' can't they tell in the investigation of it how long you were there? If you were there for ten seconds before you could get the hell out of there? I was under the impression that the people who 'accidentally' viewed this stuff and were caught had a history of it on their computer? Maybe someone might accidentally stumble upon it, but there is no reason to stay there and view it.

    If you were drunk and watching porn and 'accidentally' got into child porn and stayed there watching it...that is a real problem IMO.

    I think that the overwatchers allow some sort of leeway when it comes down to accidental accessing child porn as far as length of time your ip connected to the site and such. Though I think it's unlikely to get Rick Rolled to CP on the dark web.

    At any rate if your computer gets somewhere you don't need to be, unplug, disconnect from the network or hold your power button down until it cold shuts down.

    Idk. You can find child stuff on Tumblr. I saw it before & I'm always snooping around and curious about stuff (except the dark web). I was on a Tumblr post, which led to another tumbr post that lead to another. Some said Young somethin. The link lead to another Tumblr page (I forgot the name.) The boys they have pics up look really young, I think really young. Looking at it was weird and seeing so many grown men (or women) commenting under the pics makes me wonder about people.

    So my search went to Google and I found the legal age in some places can be as low as 14. I dont understand why someone would be attracted to children but is it a fetish, like how ppl like animals. There was a vid floating around of a boy in some South American country getting caught smashing a donkey...Are these fetishes or are these people mentally ill?

    I somewhat agree with him. I know plenty of folks that like to watch violent movies with killers or go to those "real death sites" but no one is labling them murderers. A friend of mine loves gore because he says it's artistic. I'm not THAT desensitized so I'm not okay with gore filled movies.

    I am one of those people who used to watch videos on those 'real death sites' and stuff. But one difference(with a few exceptions) is that those are not expressly made for people to get off on-they are not produced for other people generally. I actually think it is important to know what true gore is-you cannot really appreciate the real suffering from wars, etc unless you really see the real horrible stuff. JMO.

    Or you can go into the medical field-another reason I watched that stuff. And when I was in nursing school and saw and dealt with people with massive wounds from gunshots or with bedsores that had eaten away huge chunks of them, I was able to deal without getting too grossed out. Although watching something may prepare you for sights and sounds, it does nothing for smells, ugh.

    I can watch some violent things but I'm a wuss when it comes to gore or scary gore. I turn my head or hide my face even during fake horror films...lol I can't look at real gore for too long. It's too depressing for me. I've seen some things but I'm just a bit toooo sensitive some times..lol
