Short Lived TV Shows

The ABC show Resurrection was actually really interesting to watch I hate it's not getting picked up after season 2. Omar Epps does a good job and the cast delivers a solid performance I just think they're having a hard time keeping audiences with its somewhat slow place. I loved the concept and overall tone of the show, me and a friend used to watch it together and swap theories about what is going to happen next.,,

Blacklight married spies? Yes! Why didn't the black networks pick this up? I really enjoyed it. I'm not even on Boris like that either. I just genuinely liked this show.

 

Does anyone remember Pushing Daisies. Was so certain they would take the show up to season 50 but allas we only got one season

 

I binged watch this show and then discovered it was CANCELLED.

 

Definitely watched Alphas, it started getting a little shaky towards the end, but I liked it.

 

OMG I LOVEEEEEEED Pushing Daisies I was actually gonna post this but you beat me to it. Such a smartly written show. I love a good witty, dialouge driven show or movie. This is one of my all-time favs. I need to order the DVDs

 

Since my original show idea was already taken, I'll post this one: Better Off Ted. This is another smartly written, witty, dialogue driven show. It's very quirky, but I loved it. It's on Netflix or Amazon Prime I believe.

 

Definitely one of the best series i have ever watched. I dont know about ordering .. i bet i can find a download somewhere

 

This show was hilarious to me! I was glued to my TV every week, until school made me miss half the season *I weep*. I might just binge watch it again.

 

Alphas was my shit! I was so mad when it ended and that cliffhanger though?

This was a short lived show on Fox about these freshman in undergrads. Only lasted one season but i loved it. One of Judd Apatow's early works.

This is still one of my all time favorite shows...I feel like I'm the only person that remembers it lol

 

I forgot about this one. I definitely used to watch. I really liked it.

 

I was soo disappointed that this show only got one season. No, I wasnt JUST a fan of the, um, casting, it was actually a really good show.

 

This and Firefly were both great shows. I'm glad they at least gave Dollhouse an ending. Firefly got the Serenity movie, but it wasn't quite the same.

Also Alphas, Pushing Daisies (which was killed by the writers' strike,) and Undercovers (which was killed by black people not watching and white people not watching for completely different reasons) all broke my heart when they were canceled.

Carnivale was so creepy but awesome. I think people just weren't ready for it back then. Now, with the success of American Horror Story, I think it would've fared better.

 

Maybe a bit better, but Carnivale seems to cater to an audience that enjoys a fairly complex, overarching plot and mythology. I never saw it (I wanna look it up on HBO GO one day) but had the impression that it may have lacked a traditional hook to bring in a bigger audience. True Blood, which arrived only 3 years after Carnivale ended, and American Horror Story are built for an audience that enjoys sex, wacky humor and crazy shyt that makes people want to share on social media, a type of heightened, easily digestible supernatural drama that often has questionable long-term plotting and character arcs but attracts lots of buzz with fast pacing and wild moments, kinda like Empire. AHS and Empire also employ lots of easily recognizable popular actors. Many of Carnivale's actors have done a lot of work but aren't very well-known. And recent hit genre shows have easily advertised high concepts like vampires, ghosts, witches, zombies, anything goes medieval drama, etc. while Carnivale looks like it's about a bunch of folks in some weird, dusty small town. But genre shows are kinda in at the moment. HBO has Westworld coming next year.

 

I agree that the target audience is different. There were no divas, or glamorous women (even the sexy women were rather chubby.) I actually liked the fact that the cast was full of character actors, but then again, I prefer a good story to sensationalism and or celebrity buzz (not that I mind shows like that too; Empire and AHS are my guilty pleasures.)
