Taboo: Bi the Way, She Can, but He Can't

Well I think that's currently the weakness of masculinity. In hetero-normative society, there are many things a man can do and retain his "manhood." Nowadays, male affection isn't one of them. That wasn't always the case though. Men used to be very friendly with one another.

Being bisexual also brings "manhood" into question. Too many people think that bi people don't exist. Too many women wouldn't date bisexual men. The threat and shame of being feminized is what keeps bisexual men DL, not to mention all the other implications like religion. I'm afraid the stakes are too high for men to openly be bisexual and retain the respect that a straight man would in this society. That's my take on it at least. Anyone else feels the same or different?

 

It's all hypocritical BS. I believe in bisexuality. Maybe they lean towards one gender more than the other, but that doesn't change the fact that they are bi-sexual.

I think bisexuality is taboo because it forces people to see sexuality as a spectrum and not a category.

 

i dont really have much to add on this one @Ishmal and @LeMignon hit the nail on the head. ppl don't like something new or something they cant control, if it does not fit into there box of views then it receives labels: unclean, taboo, abomination. like i said in another thread we as man get hit harder then chicks when its comes down to same sex love but i feel deep down the only ones to blame for that are men we made most of these so called rules for control.

Masculinity is far more fragile and the slightest variation of it calls you into question and judgement. From both men and women gay or straight so most SGL loving men period never come out and bisexual men also have to deal with their sexuality being questioned mostly by other SGL people saying it's really the base before the gay homerun which is terrible and forces more silence. I believe as long as a people is silent they will always be marginalized. I also second @LeMignon @Ishmal! You have to be one or the other for many there's no inbeteween so it invalidates our existence.

 

For real though! When I was younger, I barely cared about masculinity. I didn't care or know enough to care. I simply did me. Simple. Happy. Me. I'm pretty sure that's why my parents thought I was gay before I came out. They knew when I was kid. Now I'm more inbetween when it comes to masculinity, but I feel like being gay is the best excuse to do stuff that men normally can't do. Stuff that a lot of men probably want to do, but can't. Nonconformative things... kinda like Jaden Smith

 

Personally, I think it's the man. I'm sure there have been mofos who had negative opinions of me since acknowledging my bisexuality openly. Most of them would never say anything to my face, and the few who would would only do it as the result of some other frustration.

I've never failed to attract women & men...mostly dating women, especially since being upfront about it. Sure, there are women who would vocalize how they weren't interested in dating bisexual men...but, most of them never got an invitation from me. I'm pretty selective. Of the ones that did, however, I can honestly say very few bowed out after getting to know me.

It's a hard choice. One has to decide if they are willing to risk all the "possible" ass & pussy by telling, or stay silent and raise the possibility of getting laid by people who don't "see" us.

Gay folk do it everyday. So do str8 ones. People are afraid to be a real version of themselves. We hide all kinds ish. If not forever, at least until we know how we feel about them, or how they feel about us.

My choice is to believe I have a right to be...in all my imperfections, uniqueness, and ugliness. If you can't "see" me...you won't be seen.

It ain't easy...but, anything worth having isn't.

 

They don't realize, just as many, if not more, go from gay to bisexual. We don't hear about that as much, though. Cause, it doesn't make the case & reveals the potential for gay identified men to not really be gay, after all. But, as long as the one drop rule is in play, they feel secure. You know the rule? The one where if you've ever had even 1 experience with another man, even rape, then you're gay. It's the power of the magical dick, to transform your entire life forever, regardless of what happens after, how you feel about it, or what you do or don't do.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with having whatever sex you want, with another consenting adult or adults. As long as it's not being forced on anyone, and everyone understands what they're getting into...who cares?

Sex should be a pathway to freedom...not shame, fear, or anxiety.

Male bisexuality has such a taboo attached to it because male homosexuality is vilified and demonized in many cultures and religions including American culture. Since Christianity still has a toxic influence on people's attitudes toward sexuality in general, male homosexuality in particular. It shouldn't be surprising that bisexuality in men is kept quiet and frowned upon. In comparison female bisexuality and lesbianism is considered relatively benign or at least non threatening so women get a pass for same gender sexual behavior. Many straight men fetishize lesbians and bisexual women for obvious reasons.
