Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) posted a revealing yet depressing letter on Instagram yesterday where he touched on his decision to leave NBC’s Community, his delayed new album, his life, his fears and a whole lot of raw emotion. Written on 7 sheets of Residence Inn notepad, the letter feels like the last journal entry found after a man chooses to end his own life.
Its hard to tell how much of this is artsy Frank Ocean-like theater and how much of it is true confession. Glover has always been a self proclaimed weirdo, so this prose fell in line with what we already know about the young man. One could ask, if this were a true confession, why post it to Instagram of all places? Is this the new millennial way to get frustrations off of your chest in loo of expensive therapy?
The reason that I suggest Glover should be on suicide watch is this series of confessions through social media seemed eerily familiar to young rapper Freddy E using Twitter to confess his raw emotional state shortly before putting a shotgun to his face and pulling the trigger.
Either way, we hope everything works out for Donald Glover’s mental well being. He’s a talented inspirational individual with a lot of potential and promise.
(Side-note: The second sheet of notepad could easily apply to a gay man dealing with his sexuality)

He seems to be suffering from depression. People who suffer with depression are sometimes capable of creating some of the greatest works on earth while secretly dying inside. I wish him well.

Say that Nick. And I don’t understand it. One of my closest friends is highly succesful, pretty powerful, and more money than he knows what to do with. Every few months he just gets extremely depressed. I’m always there for him but do not understand it.
Few people know that I’ve suffered for many years with bouts of intermittent depression. Over those years, I’ve managed that monster, not through medication (which I refuse to take) but though my withdrawing and shutting out the world and writing down how I felt until the depression passed. A doctor once told me that regardless of the challenges life threw at me, he felt that I had the potential and the strength to never let myself go over the edge – i.e., commit suicide. If I just chill, get my head into reading, writing and/or listening to music – all things that I love to do, I’d be good until the depression passed. It’s been nearly three decades and the man’s words continue to prove true. Whatever Glover’s issues are, I hope they do not lead him to self-destruction. I hope that GENUINE friends give him the love and attention he might be calling out for. Either that or may he find his own solution to his issues – just as I did, in dealing with the things that bring him great internal pain and concern.//
I really hope he gets the help he needs or the companion he wants. Its really sad to hear things like this from such a talented young black celebrity. I wish him well and hope he finds the help he’s reaching out for.
This is kinda sad. I’m not sure where this is coming from but if this brother needs help I sincerely hope he finds it. There’s nothing like going through something publicly and going through it alone.
Man, Gambino got some shit on his head! I think my mans might just be doing some venting on a national stage and also exposing some things about himself in order to not let it bind him anymore… It does come off like a cry for help in a sense, but if u ever followed DG on Twitter u know he goes off like this from time to time… He definitely got some sexual identity crises happening… Creative minds deal with a lot of pressure. He definitely tryna handle it all.

I’ve listened to all of his music. Literally… He is depressed, and his music can also make you depressed lol but I also hope he figures this out. He is my hero
