Cypher Avenue continues to highlight the gay witch hunts and accusations concerning black men and their sexuality. The latest black man to be attacked negatively over his sexuality is the current Mayor of Newark, New Jersey Cory Booker. Rumors concerning Mayor Booker’s sexuality have persisted for years via Gossip websites and blogs. Young, attractive, intelligent, discreet, masculine, no wife, girlfriend or children; equates to DL HOMO in our current climate.
The internet is full of websites questioning Mayor Booker’s sexuality and black women stating they would be upset if Booker is gay because it would be one less “good black man”. There are also plenty of black men on blogs stating that Booker is gay. Check out the example below from one blog:
“Who didn’t know this dude was g@y by now. He has booty bandit Boule written all over him; lightskinned: check, postgraduate degree: check, permanent bachelor: check; politician: check, g@y a$$ vibe: double-check“.
Yep you read it right. For some being a light skin, educated, successful black man equals gay.
The recent allegations and insinuations about the Rhodes Scholar come from his conservative Republican political opponent Steve Lonegan. Both Booker and Lonegan are running for Senate for the state of New Jersey. Not only were Lonegan’s allegations sort of vicious but he also insinuates that homosexual men are not “men”.
Lonegan stated, “It’s kind of weird. As a guy, I personally like being a guy. I don’t know if you saw the stories last year. They’ve been out for quite a bit about how he (Booker) likes to go out at three o’clock in the morning for a manicure and a pedicure”.
Lonegan said referring to an interview Booker gave to the magazine DuJour last summer where he grew to enjoy getting manicures and pedicures after an ex-girlfriend introduced him to the pampering. Lonegan goes on to say that he likes a good scotch and a cigar, again implying that he is more of a man. When asked directly if he thought Booker was gay, Lonegan answered that he didn’t know, but “maybe that helps to get him the gay vote by acting ambiguous.”
The Booker campaign released a statement that said, “Mr. Lonegan’s comments are disappointing, bigoted and far outside the mainstream, implying that a man is not a man if he’s gay.”
Taking the high road, Booker continues to stay classy in his responses to the gay rumors and has said many times he is straight and likes to keep his private life private. Unfortunately, as a celebrity politician being discreet is not allowed.
Concerning privacy and girlfriends, Booker has stated, “how unfair is it to a young lady to put them in the spotlight if they haven’t signed up for that yet?”
Concerning the homosexual allegations, Booker has stated, “People who think I’m gay, some part of me thinks it’s wonderful, because I want to challenge people on their homophobia.” He also states, “I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I’m gay, and I say, so what does it matter if I am? So be it. I hope you are not voting for me because you are making the presumption that I’m straight.”
It should also be noted that Lonegan is trailing badly in the polls by likely voters in comparison to Booker. I can suspect the witch hunt will only increase if Booker is not married by the time he decides to run for President in 2024.

@ocky
When you have a candidate low in the polls you come to expect him to ‘hit below the belt’ to see if that will give his opponent any blows. The lower he hits the deeper he digs his own hole. Booker will win, the talk will continue and all will be well in the world.
The republicans always seek to enter the privacy of the bedroom to use as a political weapon. They just don’t learn. They put their heads in, they get hit by bedroom slippers. Memo to Lonegan…Keep out of people most sacred closet- THE BEDROOM.
I don’t think Booker makes the situation any better by just refusing to come out and say he’s straight. He’s practically inviting the scrutiny.
@hannibal he said he’s not gay. Why should he make a declaration stating he’s “straight?”
I believe Mayor Booker at face value, he is more than capable of being a big boy and saying I like guys I’m gay. For him to be presciently harassed about who is sleeping with is no ones damned business. The only concerns anyone should have with him should be policy wise and from the looks of the polls New Jersey likes those positions. I look forward to seeing Senator Booker on the floor of the Senate by Halloween.
My friend and I discussed this story last week, and I just love how Cory Booker has handled this witch hunt. Particularly his response in saying “SO WHAT IF I WERE GAY?” After he made that brave bold in your face statement, I’ve been #TeamBooker every since. I don’t care if he’s gay or not, I just admire his courage to put himself out there knowing the scutiny that will follow.
Let me start by saying though I’m happy the qualifications of being gay are postgraduate degree and to be an object of attraction to many, however I’m so over bigots posting things like this. It’s 2013 ( hate that phrase but it was appropriate) men take care of themselves. Thats besides the point. Personally I’m so over politics. I would think that people would learn to not be so nasty because people are a little smarter today then they were 30+ years ago. Someone is always going to blog about what you say and rip apart your arguments and easily make you the bad guy which will put you further back in the polls. I like Bookers response. Even though he gave that Anderson cooper “my private life is my life response”, but what if he is gay? Who gives a shit? how does this effect his job? I don’t know the man to judge whether he’s gay or not, but if he is I urge him to express who he really is because he may spark the next young gay politician who could change the world.
I’m not really surprised by this seeing as how when it comes to politics, candidates do and say whatever to sway away from the issues at hand. I’m glad Mayor Booker didn’t give into the bullshit antics from his opponent. Secondly, I’d like for somebody to point out exactly when it became “gay” or you weren’t considered a “man” if you indulge in pampering? Also, if Mayor Booker is gay, SO WHAT! I hate to play the race card but if Mayor Booker were a white single male, would there be gay rumors running rampant about him? It seems to me that whenever it comes to black men and homosexuality, people seem to use the excuse of said black man being young, attractive, and single as the precursor to assuming he might be gay.
He’s a grown azz man who doesnt have to come out as anything if/until/when he decides to. Thats a personal decision that no1 should be forced into.
Cory Booker isn’t gay. The big secret he’s hiding is that he likes white women. Which probably wouldn’t go over too well amongst his constituents in Newark.
