Billboard’s Country chart police have come under scrutiny for removing Lil Nas X’s country trap song Old Town Road from the Billboard Country charts. Their reason;

“…upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

In other words, “we can’t have a darkie setting blaze and dominating the country charts.” This is the same committee that will allow a Taylor Swift pop song with zero country elements onto the country charts simply because its Taylor Swift.

Lil Nas X is getting the last laugh because not only did Billboard’s racist reaction make his track more of a viral hit but now Billy Ray Cyrus (an award winning country legend) is now on the remix. This was done as an obvious FUCK YOU to Billboard Country governing body. Cyrus defended Lil Nas X’s original version, adding to the backlash towards the Nashville establishment. Cyrus wrote on Twitter;

The positives…this will undoubtly expose more Black people to country music and expose more white people to hip hop. This is a win-win and Billboard missed the mark. Check out the original and remix below.

Also for good measure…
