After a week of debate, anger, frustration and denial over the verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial, President Obama came out Friday give an informed and needed 18 minute speech on the topic. Amongst other things, he gives possible solutions to racial bias, disproportionate violence in the black community and the acknowledgement that racial discrimination still exists, especially for black men.

I’m so glad that he said that Trayvon Martin could have been him… can you imagine? If President Obama was 17 years old and he passed on… Who knows what Trayvon Martin could’ve been… an amazing musician, doctor, engineer, teacher or even the first black male person to be in a prominent position in the white house.
May Trayvon Martin rest in perfect peace.
The President took white America to school yesterday and he pointed out that even HE is not immune to the racist homogeny called the USA. It will never go away, its like the common cold. But the only way to deal with it when it flares its ugly head is to unite and fight. Fight racism with solidarity, not with racism.
The juries were properly instructed? That’s not what I heard.
I heard the jury was confused by the judge’s instruction when it came to the charge of 2nd degree murder and manslaughter. They had to ask the judge to clarify. I don’t think they were informed properly. There was a clear manslaughter charge here.
Properly instructed my ass. How about being properly selected? 5 white woman and 1 woman who they acted as if they did not even know her ethnicity at one point. Basically an all white jury of women sitting on a trial where racial profiling was the initial focus. Are you fuckin kidding me? Where was the black juror, or the Asian juror? Why was there no diversity on the fuckin panel?
The whole trial was a travesty from the jury to the defense to the prosecution and the muthafuckin judge. Whole system is corrupt. Obama aint sayin shit aint doin shit aint shit. If you can’t tell I’m MAD lol
I’m glad president Obama finally decided to speak on the case. After hearing him speak I thought of a few things that stuck out to me. As I was watching some t.v. news networks following his speech such as CNN I noticed how many black anchors were on their network and also other networks. I was thinking that in some ways our society has made progress on racial inequality and and racial injustice. If you look around in movies, t.v shows, sports, the music industry, politics, etc, there are other examples. Obama made a point about this and he is right. I think sometimes we as a race forget how far we have come. However, the situation with Trayvon Martin reveals that there still is more work to be done.
I also like how he mentioned that we need to help our young black males. I believe that we as a race need to reach back and educate our youth on the tools to being successful in life because there are too many youth and older adults that are succumbing to drugs, crime, family issues,…
