COMMENTARY ON THE SHORT FILM: DENNIS
There’s a lot more depth to this excellent 2007 Danish short film that is meant to spark discussion. One thing is for sure; I found that Kim Kold’s portrayal as the protagonist Dennis was outstanding.
WATCH: Gay Dating Short Film “Door Number One”
“Door Number One” is a short film on dating starring a few familiar web-series faces. Atlanta actors seen in the series “Steel River” (Cort King as Doug) and “T.R.A.D.E.” (Davien Harlis as Toure) have prominent roles here.
WATCH: POST HUMAN
Post Human is a Sci-Fi animated short that follows a genius hacker and his dog as they help a “Jean Grey” like young woman in freeing the remaining test subject of a black ops ESP test lab. So stop what you are doing and watch it right now.
WATCH: Don’t Move
This is simply a true short horror film at its best. The premise is simple in that there is a spirit or demon that has manifested and feeds off of those who move. The characters have to be still in order for the demon not to sense where they are located. If the demon senses movements, it’s feeding time. I like the creativity and concept within the short that was directed by Anthony Melton, written by David Scullion with cinematography by Jonny Franklin.
This short inspired the full length feature film of the same name produced by Guillermo del Toro. I was captivated by the cinematography and uneasy suspense presented when the two young girls are standing at the staircase. The creature design and movements of “Mama” are somewhat unique and unsettling. I can understand why this short was picked up and turned into a full length feature film. If you have 3 minutes, set back and enjoy Mama.

FILM REVIEW: The Young and Evil
The five-year-old black gay short film, The Young and Evil, recently resurfaced online as a cautionary tale for gay men of all ages. The intention may have been to garner sympathy for the main character, instead it comes off as a horror movie chronicling the origin of a villain.
WATCH: Short Film – The Gift
I continue to be amazed by many short films released on the internet over big box office features from Hollywood. The Gift is another gift to the small screen, well in this case to the internet. Directed by Carl Erik Rinsch (Ridley Scott’s protégé), The Gift is essentially a sci-fi action chase film set in Russia that involves an artificial intelligent robot and a precious box.
WATCH: Special Effects Laced Short Film “Jonah”
Filmed in Zanzibar with to black British actors, Jonah is a modern re-imagining of the Biblical “Jonah and the Whale” tale. What a great short that proves black filmmakers can think outside of the box every now and then.
