Premiering on the OWN network; David Makes Man centers on a very intelligent 14yr old from the projects who is grappling with the death of his closest friend. He has to make a decision to embrace the streets or his education, which could provide a way out of poverty.

Between this show and The Chi, I can’t recall any other television drama that centered on a young Black teenage male with homosexual themes. It follows the same format as Tarell Alvin McCraney’s previous work (Oscar winner for Best Film) Moonlight. The network trailer does come off as Moonlight made for television mixed with a bit of Patrick Ian Polk. While the trailer is beautifully produced, it puts me in the mindset of “not another Black gay web-series”. Regardless, I will be watching it.
