For all those interested, here is the original 22 minute pilot episode of George Smith Hill’s That Life: Atlanta. This is the full version of the 2011 version of the show with the older cast. So I guess this would be documenting the first of the three times that George has moved to Atlanta from Texas…Or maybe he never lived in Texas and everything has been scripted for the show’s benefit…I’m not quite sure. Previously, only the infamous trailer was available from this pilot, now we get to see the entire episode. I’m not sure how long this will be available on YouTube, so you better watch it as soon as possible if you’re interested.
Given that Cypher Avenue’s most commented on article ever is the posting about the 2013 version of Tha Life Atlanta, I felt readers might be interested in seeing where it started.
I will say its interesting to see the differences in story and quality. Seeing this version makes me appreciate the REMAKE even more as it demonstrates what more effort and money can achieve. I guess all of these men would classify as “Inbetween” (they damn sure ain’t masculine). It is what it is, but the 2013 version definitely shows more diversity at the least (masculine, effeminate, other). The new version is a masterpiece compared to this. So props to George for taking the feedback/criticism and making the necessary changes for the better.
We hear that George is Re-Casting the show AGAIN for a third Pilot to pitch to networks…
Should he blend elements of the two or should he start from Scratch?
What are your thoughts? Which Version do you prefer?

I think if he couldn’t sell the concept after 2 pilots it may be time to move along. Perhaps something scripted and not as focused on trying to make himself a socialite. I thought the second season was a full season, not a pilot. Now I feel cheated lol.
This isn’t somethingi can see my self really getting into becuase of the over abundance of gay cliches, in both pilots.
So I see why nick gave the second pilot to this show higher marks. The quality to of it is a drastic improvement from this particular pilot. It was a good move to replace the old girly dudes with some young girly dudes. I think people would much rather see younger folks be messy, drama filled, and immature rather than some folks in thier 40’s acting that way. And the acting in the the second pilot is much better as well.
If he makes a third pilot he should definetley add diversity by casting some guys that are actually naturally masculine, becuase non in either pilot are, and are not obbssed with the party, club, wanna be socilite scene.
…Aye to each its own though…
I don’t believe in giving up on your dreams, but maybe he should use some of his money to talk to a TV executive and ask them what would help get his show picked up.
I can appreciate that this guy saw what he produced the first time and made significant positive changes. The quality of most recent episode of the show was worlds better than this one. I subconsciously tried to change the quality of this video almost 10 times! It was horrible!!
This episode was also quite boring. At least the recent pilot had the usual makings of today’s most watched reality TV shows. There were relatively attractive people creating unnecessary drama, partying, fighting and crying over failed fake relationships. No one wants to watch these middle aged men argue about starting a business.
I honestly don’t know if there is a big market for this type of show outside of people who gay/bisexual themselves. I just don’t see any major cable networks picking it up. Maybe he should try LOGO… *shrug*
I had never seen this b4..and I wish it had stayed that way!
Grown ass men, all clearly of a certain age, and a paycheck or 2 away, acting like 22 year olds.
I guess I’m a little confused. The whole 22 minutes was spent on them arguing about their reputations and their so called stauts in ATL. I think that both pilots are a mess. There is no substance; it’s all about opulence. There’s more to life than money and partying and meaningless bickering. Not feeling it at all.

LMAO!!!
I remember when he was promoting the show with the original cast. It actually got a decent amount of publicity. He definitely was smart to recast for the second release. You could already tell it was just going to be really messy from the introductions of the original cast. The current cast isn’t much better. They definitely have a lot of issues amongst themselves. I didn’t realize that the “moving from Texas to Atlanta” a second time until I read the article. Which begs the question, “How many times are you going to move from Texas to Atlanta?” They say third time is the charm. Well maybe production and casting will all come together. The show could definitely use a lot of improvements. I am assuming it’s going to take him another 2 years before he releases another “pilot” episode. Not really seeing which network would actually pick up the show.
You would think that with the high volume of reality shows and web series based in Atlanta that someone would actually think to branch out to another city. Most of the shows are so similar that if you have seen one the you have seen them all. What happened to “originality” and “creativity”?
Man, I just cant understand why this wasn’t a major hit. Money, power, respect…right? #sarcasm
