Machinima (one of my favorite websites) has released the entire second season of Mortal Kombat Legacy II. Thanks Netflix for setting this trend.  If you are not familiar with Mortal Kombat, it’s an ultra-violent fighting style video game from the 90’s.  Fighters with special or magical skills square off in a tournament reminiscent of Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon

In this universe, the realms were in harmony, but the gods wanted more power. This balance was soon thrown into discord. The power-hungry gods challenged each other over the fates of their respective realms. They battled to the death in tournaments alongside mortal champions chosen from each realm.  Enter Mortal Kombat.

Riding high of the first successful web series with over 70 million views, the second season is back with more action, more special effects and a bigger budget (thanks Warner Brothers).  Back at the helm as director is Kevin Tancharoen who stated “we’re trying to find balance between a tournament and a war story.” In addition, Tancharoen wanted to keep his options open for Season 3.   Some stars from the first season didn’t return for the second i.e. “Jax” played by Michael Jai White but that didn’t stop production going forward with a new great cast.

*Harry Shum, Jr. (Glee ) as the warlord adviser “Kuai Liang”

*Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers ) as martial arts film actor “Johnny Cage”

*Brian Tee (The Wolverine ) as Shaolin Monk “Liu Kang”

*Mark Dacascos (Cradle 2 the Grave ) as “Kung Lao”

*Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-0 ) returns as the resurrected ninja Scorpion

*Cary Tagawa reprises the role he made famous in the Mortal Kombat theatrical release as the powerful, arrogant sorcerer “Shang Tsung.”

In the second season, the saga continues as Liu Kang and Ermac join the ranks of fighters introduced in the series first season. This new season uncovers the rivalries and histories of the warriors as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. Chronicling the tournament and the interweaving storylines you will learn of the complex relationship between the characters.  Let the Kombat begin!

The first episode is below.  FYI, watch out for the bottles to the face and the kick to the ankle…ouch!
