Written, directed by and starring handsome actor Ernest Pierce (DTLA) as the title character Damien, this web series features the rare depiction of a Bisexual masculine black man as the lead character. Whuuuuuuuuut? I know right? On top of that, every other character ISN’T gay. Whuuuuuuuuuut? Even better, it features professional black men without roommates or still living with their parents. Whuuuuuuuuut? And most of the episodes are not built entirely around Damien being Bisexual. Whuuuuuuuuuut? This series has a lot of things going for it from the start. Do I approve? See HERE.
Once I watched the series, things began to fall apart. But I’ll save my opinions for the comments section. So let me get the Open Discussion started with a few questions. Is this web series any good? Is this a breath of fresh air or more of the same? What are your thoughts on Ernest Pierce’s Writing, Directing and Acting?

I watched this series too and thought it was pretty cool and somewhat funny. It was nice to see a story not centered around just sexuality and its complexities-which most of those webseries are about, from hetero-lgbtq! But I was hoping for another season or at least a completion to this one. The funny part was the visit to the aunt’s house for dinner and the family differences.
Ernest Pierce’s character reminds me a little bit of the character he plays on DTLA…just a tad maybe?! But he always seems to play characters who have a great career, but personal life is in shambles or in sorta disarray -lol!
Would be cool if they revamped this series to stretch the story more and give a little more depth to the characters overall.
With these Web series/Short films, I always wonder when will there be a story centered around everyday folk who just happen to have been bisexual. gay, lesbian, or whatever-but show them in a light that is dealing with life issues from a HUMAN perspective and NOT a fantasy filled with highly unlikely scenarios donned with pretty macho-muscular boys who all are struggling with things like screwing the neighbor or roommate?! But I digress! LOL
Agreed on all points. Ernest does seem to play the same asshole character repeatedly. Makes me think he’s like that in real life, why else would he write and direct this for himself as a vehicle for his acting? You would think he would want to diversify and try something different.
Again, I agree with you Nick…
This series have a lot of things going for it from the start, which made it interesting. But started falling apart along the way. Namely, the constant barging in of the mother at the most inopportune times! I don’t know about anyone else, but the thought of having my mother walk in on me while I am sexually intimate with someone is mortifying itself and most likely she’d probably would have been stunned as well~LOL! And she would have called before bringing her nosey ass over my house or would’ve waited til she spoke to me at least! LOL.
That’s the stuff I’m talking about with these Webseries/Shows and their fictitious/outlandish scenarios that don’t quite lineup in reality. If you’re gonna do fantasy, give me fantasy-but if you’re doing somewhat reality type of situations come on man and make it genuine!
FREEFALL Series…That’s my issue with that series!
It could be really cool if they change some things around and get better actors that are more expressive as well as give a more in-depth story other than that somber-woe is me-dreary look they all have! At first I liked the show, but its pathetic now!
Anyway…Good topic! Hahaha!
I think it’s pretty good so far. The acting isn’t the best, but I don’t cringe like I do when watching other series like Freefall. It’s entertaining, but I don’t fully understand the point of the series. There’s no clearly defined plot. Their portrayal of bisexual people as promiscuous is also problematic. I’d give it a chance though. I have to see more episodes. The leading actor is nice to look at too!
“HATED IT!” (in my men on film voice)
Although the lead actor is too cute, he’s a fluke. Worming his way in and out of every nook and pantie. I am sexually repulsed, but sex sells, so oh what the hell.
Don’t carve out authenticity, just give me what everybody else is giving me – emptiness and covered in mess. I don’t know if you want to be a comedy, drama, or “ghettolicious?” “Boqueesha?” Really.
And thugalicious talking about “stuffiness” and KoolAid. OMGEEE
Too campy, too trampy. He’s right about one thing – he has issues and his product doesn’t know what it wants to be…
Boogee? Prep School? Interracial dating? Bisexuality? Broken Home? Sexual promiscuity? Ghetto? Thug? Hispanic? Prostitution? Homosexuality?
Now put it all in a big pot mix and STIR gently. Serve with a side of “SPLENDA” yuk, I don’t want any. Do not give me a bowl because I can tell you that I don’t like “Splenda” in my soup.
So agreed with @Coshamo on all his points.Episode 3 was really over the top with those very loud ghetto acting women. The scene of his mother barging in to take a crap while he was in the shower being intimate was hardly hilarious. The lead character is very attractive and based on what I have seen so far this is all this series seems to have going for it.Sorry but for me this series is two thumbs down.
I guess it wasn’t THAT bad lol
It wasn’t bad. But my issue, and I have this issue with almost every black gay webseries was the sound. Seems like so many black gay filmmakers take no care to make sure the images they put out sound crisp and clear. Sound is half of the experience. *end rant*
ABSOLUTELY Hannibal!
Having clear and crisp sound is so important!!!
Some film theories suggest sound is actually the most important aspect of a film/tv show. You can adjust your eyes, but you can’t adjust your ears. Half of these black gay webseries that look likethey spent more money on the wardrobe then they did the sound design just bothers me because it’s one of the easiest thing to get right if you actually try. *#soundguyproblems*
This series wasnt that bad. It was kinda funny at times.
I don’t like the “Black Ghetto” stereotype in the family scene. Also the lead character Damien is handsome, but the way he dragssssss out hissss SSS’s bothers me a bit lol.
But I look at this web series like this, It is obviously a comedy. And I feel with comedies you can kinda do what ever you want if you make it work. So stereotypes, and certian situations can be exaggerated in a comedy for the sake of the luagh. Even if things may not typically happen that way in reality. It is a fictional comedy , not a show based on reality. It had some funny moments and the acting wasnt horrible but the transitions and timing when delivering the lines could be better.
I just watched the Free fall web series too and like I said before, the timing of line delivery in free fall absolutly sucks!!! This in turn makes the acting horrible as well. Also why is it that in Free fall the actors have basciclly the same facial expressions even when they are sad, upset, or just found out that their homie is a murderer????? …… LOL
“Also why is it that in Freefall the actors have basciclly the same facial expressions even when they are sad, upset, or just found out that their homie is a murderer?????”
*Spits out Koolaid* Yo that’s funny but true…
But imma step away from this slowly b/c the Freefall actors have already been through the ringer on this site (and I hear they are fans of DC). Lemme find out one day one of them gonna be the next Denzel or something though. That would be a come-up story. Almost every creative person sucked at some point in the beginning of their careers so you never know.
Lol oh yeah I want DC to continue to grow so lets not run anybody away LOL
But pretty much all the dudes on Freefall are definitely nice to look at!!! which is always good!!!! lol
The Ugly: Overall the production side of the series is very rough . Some of the shots were not clear, out of focus, or not well edited. The sound was ok although in the 3th episode it was kinda hard to make who was saying what during the argument. This may be to not well thought out scripting. Also one has to remember the lighting. There were a couple of shots that appeared to dark. The Bad: not sure of the expertise of the actors, overall many of the actors need some work. I would want to believe the story as if it were reality in front of me and that is hard to do because some of the cast aren’t believable. Earnest and the actress that plays his mother do shine. The both manage to make their characters believable. The Good: Thus far the web series has ok plot mechanics and non stereotypical characters, with the exception of the extended family. I like the fact that screen writer chose for the lead to be a young black professional. Yes, Damian is a arrogant elitist prick with whorish tendencies and the mother is a bit loopy; here the actors along with the screen writer did a excellent with character development and characterization. These two manage to involve an emotional response. All in all I see a lot a potential in this series.
Okay brehs, lemme just say there’s a reason that this show wasn’t included on the site up until now. Someone already mentioned that Ernest Pierce’s looks are the only good things about this show and I would agree. The acting and writing are a little too campy and unfunny for my tastes.
Plus the technical issues, sound and video is sloppy…Not to mention the episodes look like they were 50% improvised by non-comedians. This show makes Finding Me: The Series look like Shakespeare. But again, its good to see variety on the web featuring gay men of color. Ernest was decent in DTLA so its sad to see this web series lower his stock.
Aiight guys
This is my take on the web series. NO NO NO NO, Hell NO!!
Okay, where is the rest? lol I just watched every episode and I must say that I am impressed. This was pure comedy. Does anyone know what happened? This was the best shit ever!
The first episode was really good, but it was all downhill from there. The second and third episodes were clearly improved and the camera work was sloppy. The second episode was nowhere near as bad as the third though. That was downright terrible. It has potential though.
I thought I would enjoy it from the first episode but that was ruined with the 2nd and 3rd. People need to start taking acting lessons. I have no problem with improv but one of the main rules is you can’t talk over other people. The 3rd episode was just a bunch of people shouting over each other trying to be comical. Well, they failed.
Hello All, This is the producer of Damien’s Quest. I want to thank you for taking the time to review and offer your feedback with the production. The show itself was a test run of a web series topic just for research and mild entertainment. I totally agree with some of the comments and others not to much, but with Art opinions are both subjective and objective in nature and always warranted. And if you’re going to put something out in the world be prepared for all types of feedback, so thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Damien’s Quest started out as a 2 minute trailer for a series that kind of fell into it’s on and ended up being a short test run for a couple of episodes. The first episode written by Ernest Pierce and afterwards brought on a new writer as a test run. The show had limited resources and went through a series of crew changes but in the end was a mock up of random moments with the character Damien. While the creator’s main objective was not to create a gay themed web series or dwell on the topic of sexuality, it most definitely covered those area in some of the episodes. It explored all the challenges of this character who was quite addicted with the idea of addiction. The character is living in a life, exploring who he was and finding his journey with all the day to day issues of love, work and friendship. The casting was sporadic at times and brought on new talent from broad backgrounds and spectrums which led to much diversity onset. At the end, the show’s test run ended to focus on other projects of various focal points. There are plans to finish the last two episodes which will explain much of the concepts explored in the previous episodes but for now is pending. And yes, the sound quality will be enhanced. LOL, but overall out of many independent web series we are happy to say that the amount of view, coupled with mild writing has made the series somewhat memorable in nature. So, thank you for that. We do thank you once again for your time and energy.
