I'm not a hardcore Franco fan, but I don't have anything against him, either. He's a good lookin dude and seems like he'd be a cool dude to hang around. I knew a few "Francos" when I was in the military, and they were always the most fun guys to chill with because they didn't give a flyin' f#$k what anyone thought of them. As far as his "gay fluidity", who cares? I said the same thing. It’s no way they met on Christian Mingle (grant it, some freaks are on there too lol). I would’ve been upfront and said we met for a hook up and we ended up connecting on a deeper level. I don’t think anyone would have thought any less of them haha. I've made this point before and I'll make it again white gay people are raised with the same white supremacist mindset as straight white people. One shouldn't be surprised by their attitude or actions. If you actually take the time to think about it white gay activism is not about equality just like white feminist activism isn't about equality. It's about gaining full access to the benefits of whiteness.

This is why @ockydub 's article is important. This man had a path that white most of us wouldn't have taken we should be able to understand where he's coming from even if you disagree with the way he decided to handle things.

He was in a relative spotlight, in the sports world, in one of the most aggressive sports there is. I think he was trying to prove his manhood. I don't think he had to do things the way he did as far as the kids and such.

But I'm thinking now in the back of his head, as crazy as this may sound, he wanted to do the porn knowing that it would come out eventually and he'd have some form of release [did not mean the pun this time]. However, the people who were close to him have dropped him which is the fear so many back men have.

We can be strong, masculine, bold, and as tough as we want to but we all want a support system.

I think phrases like homophobic and racist are thrown around too easily in today's era. In many ways, it is fucking lazy commentary. I think we can make critiques and observations without being racist or homophobic or sexist (the big three). I don't think NH was being homophobic....he was being lazy.

I get the point NH was struggling to make but his point gets diluted when he starts using trope talking point language. "The Media" The Agenda."

Whatever point he was trying to make loses its validity because his actual point is being disguised by talking point phrases which host varying degrees of meaning.

When folks talk about "The Media," I assume they are talking about the mainstream media which in an of itself is convoluted. If you examine black and urban publications and media outlets black men (and women) are depicted in a host of ways from the most elegant images of the Obama First Family to the rachet of rachet Cardi B stripper poses. Black folks generally control these narratives and images. So complaints about The Media seem weirdly circular and insular; lacking any meaningful critical thinking or exploration.

With respect to The Gay Agenda, which is what I assumed he meant by "The Agenda" that shit quite literally doesn't exist. Some in the LGBT community have the illusion of significant power but upon scrutiny there is none. Even among the white gay elite king makers and gatekeepers. I get so sick and tired of straight people suggesting that there is some all-powerful agenda that is emasculating men. Men for what it is worth are the source of power. What is interesting about all of these Agenda narratives is that it reveals that some men, (mostly straight white men but also their black contemporaries) are afraid that they are losing power without realizing how much power they actually have.

 

It's sad to say but psychologically it's often a thin line between conservative and crazy with police and military recruits. As @DreG noticed, it happens and gets swept away. Then you throw in fragile masculinity/repressing homophobia and there you go. I have no sympathy for him as it was sexual assault at gunpoint (what if the giver had refused at gunpoint?). Give him 40 years and let him think about the life he could have lived if he had been open and not a fascist asshole.

 

@Tyroc exactly. About six years ago, when my little brother was 10 years old he convinced me to sign up with him this mixed martial arts (classic form not MMA) class...at first I was like I am a grown man, this is not for me, six years later both me and my husband working on our 2nd degrees.

I just don't understand why deny people who are able and want to serve. At the end of the day it's about having enough people to fill positions anyway.

I hear all of that, but at the end of the day, the slowest man in the 100m final at last years world championships was still faster than the female who won gold in the women's 100m final.

I personally think this is one of those areas where you need to take the kid gloves off. Athletic competitions are separated by gender for obvious reasons. If you competed in the boys meet last month, you don't get to now compete w the women and become the state champion a few weeks later.

I've said it a million times, comment sections are literally, the devil. Internet access has created a reality where everyone gets to voice an opinion, and that's not always a good thing. I first 'came out' to my parents at the age of 16 in 1979. My dad cried(I had never seen him cry before) and my mom just kept saying 'it's just a phase!!!' LOL(I can lol about it now). I kind of went back in and out(came out to friends and brothers at age 18) but after 23 I was out and that was pretty much it. Not out-in-your-face-out, but out as if it naturally came up I did not hide it or anything. Like if someone said 'what did you do this weekend? I might say 'I had a date' and they might say 'what was she like' and I would just say 'he was nice' or whatever...it just came up when it came up.

Also things like having a pic of 'us' at work, when others had pics of 'them'..people would get the idea. Being 'out' is just being yourself like anyone else. It is less 'out' and more 'not hiding being gay anymore' imo.

Of course it is all going to depend on your situation and who you are around, who your family is, etc.

*with time my parents and nearly everyone else became used to it and now we talk about gay stuff with my father being 88 and my mother 83...it ain't a big deal lol.

 

This story is so sad man. I wish we would just take ISIS out. I can only imagine the families that will find out their child is gay through learning about their death. Personally if I were the little helpless guy watching someone I care for get stomped, I'd have grabbed the chair and knocked the hell out of tank top from behind and done the same to mma.

Well I think he died realize he's still black until those white guys started rejecting him when that check didn't come through.

But I can understand black people saying he's not black enough and gay white people saying he's not gay (queen/fem) enough.

The reason why things like this hit the gay community so hard is because we're an ostracized people who fall victim to needing an escape from reality. Especially in LGBT communities of color where folks tend to be undereducated with little economic means and grossly lacking a positive support system, it forms a breeding ground for these type of things (ie. drug use, sex work in any capacity, resultant disease, and the like).

At risk of sounding cliche, it really is a vicious cycle that won't change unless our "parent communities" can heal and in turn start to love us, keep us close, and instill some self-worth so that many don't feel the need to stray and engage in these risky behaviors.

In the meantime, temporizing measures are all we have (if you're gay and know better, reach back to those who don't)

 

I've said this before I think it goes toward the fact most of the trans men are more passable than trans women. Not sure if its the strong effects of test vs estrogen. If I didn't know all the dudes in the video. i would think they all were cis men. Even the one dude with the high pitch voice ppl would prob think he as just a gay cis-man but not trans.

Trans women just stand out more and are not able to pass as easily unless they started their transition before puberty are while they were a teenagers (i.e. king amiyah).
