apparently, nick cannon questions whether white comedians who have hosted major awards shows and made equally gross homophobic statements (examples below) have been held to a different standard. i do wonder if his counterpoint is the equivalent of when blk ppl, mostly men, deflect conversations about bill cosby by bringing up how differently problematic white male celebrities are handled. not sure where i land on this, but it is certainly an interesting addition cannon adds to the dialogue.

I don’t look down on folks without a college degree, but in 2018 and beyond your prospects are gonna be pretty dim when Amazon et al can replace mofos EVEN WITH college degrees with AI.

Hmmm, yeah you def have a very kumbaya view of college...When I was there (many years ago) I saw it not only as a place to network and be exposed to new people and ideas, but mostly a place to learn a skill/trade to make a living. It was a career factory. We had people in the Business school, people in the education school, people in the engingeering school, people in the biology school, people in the communications school, etc...Everyone was learning more in their chosen field to start their careers after graduation (or to continue learning in grad school). Maybe HBCU's are different than traditional State and Ivy League schools. The Black colleges wanted us to get a job, not "learn how to learn," lol.

 

I think that the problem with the DL Chronicle guys is (or at least the issue) that they produce high grade quality content that can be broadcast on network TV. It's already mastered, been through legal clearance and that is extremely expensive to produce. It's also difficult to monetize and make a profit from it. I don't think they're the strongest when it comes to business side of the business. I think they thrive more on the creative side. These "chitlin' circuit" web series on the other hand violate so many laws they could get sued for any number of things from people inadvertently captured during filming, the use of unauthorized music, bad lighting, bad sound, bad cinematography and least of all bad acting, writing or directing. These guys can put out show after show of mediocre material easily.

 

I think an interview with one of these former actors would be insightful. I get the feeling that the setup with these young and black gay dudes is on par with the Chris Stokes and B2K setup. I don't know about the scripted shows but I did have one of the young actors working for my company and he was definitely all over the place. Horrible living situation, family that was not supportive, irresponsible but with dreams of being rich and famous. I tried to talk to him a couple of times to let him know he was headed in the wrong direction but the pull of the youtube and social media clicks was too strong. These young kats have no good role models, no support system and they're out there just winging it thinking they're doing the right thing while somebody is taking advantage of their looks. SMH

 

Basically. Me, a non writer with some technical ability and HD SLR camera, should be able to sit in front of it and make a gay web series starring me, cast in all parts and put it up for the masses and not get any blowback on my lack of skills for acting, writing, editing and the like because everyone should support me and my creative vision and for having the balls to put it out there.

It just seems to me some people are so into this strict definition of what

Actually I think the real problem -according to one of the actors -was missed, he said "we are a community and we should be supporting each other, we are not your enemy."

What he and others black gays feel is, "under no circumstances are you to ever criticize or critique our creative work; if you do, you are failing your black gay brothers."

He is expressing a real problem in thinking that echos across ALL forms of black gay creative works and media.

I think the *best* thing about this show is that these guys are at least trying to be entrepreneurs which is good. I'm not going to knock people making their own money. But... yep. that's all I'mma say.

All tell diverse stories, comedic, violent, romanticized, horror, dramatic.
I generally am not a big fan of remakes but I'll personally take a Roots remake over the alternatives of (insert stereotypical comedian) or Madea.
I strongly agree that we need more stories overall to entertain and educate us but we have entertainers and athletes who unfortunately influence our youth saying and putting fourth the mindset that now that we have Obama, Oprah, Rimes & Beyonce all at the same

Excellent points. I touched on this before but from my observation a lot millennials, males in particular have been coddled. I blame "helicopter parents" for not teaching their kids the importance of self reliance and the influence of feminism. I see many younger people who can't do basic shit like make a bed, cut grass, change a tire, or tie a tie. Many seem to not want to get their hands dirty or do any physical labor. As far as not having any skills, part of that is the fault of the American education system which no longer teaches skills and trades but only emphasizes book learning and going to college. The school system was like that when I was in school. Many shop classes were being discontinued. Gym classes, art, and music is no longer taught as well in Alot of schools. Many good paying jobs require skills. The path to leaning skills has been severed from formal education. This mainly hurts alot of young black males form poor and working-class backgrounds. Many working-class white males still have access informal networks to learn trades. Young men with no skills are forced to get low paying service sector jobs where they gotta compete with women and recent immigrants. Many these young men end up in the underground economy which often times is criminal in nature which of course leads to contact law enforcement and the prison industrial complex.

 

I think it's fair to say that people evolved or can, on whatever negative thinking they may had in the past. However I think that part of living in your truth is acknowleding your past, good or bad.

I think deleting the tweets looked worse than just owning up to it, saying he's progressed, and move forward.

As a freelancer, I've never gotten a job through advertising or filling out a job application. All of my work, including the job that got me out here in Los Angeles, was acquired through referrals and/or the relationships that I maintained over the years since college. But those referrals and connections only keep coming because the people see me putting in the quality work, not just sitting back waiting for the opportunities to come as if I were entitled to them.

 

I'm starting to think FX is good about letting their content creators work and create as they need to.He and Louis CK seem to have a lot of free reign with how they express themselves.Maybe they have enough clout to earn this,idk,but the results have been standouts.
