Check this out fellas. A comedian did a social experiment with "straight" men and decided to do a video. The guys are clueless and what ensues is FUNNY as hell. What do you think?

I don't even think this experiment was necessary to know how homophobic most black people are. All it takes is to read the comments section or social media posts. I gotta admit the results of this was amusing though.

Shit was awkward, but kinda funny. I'm not a fan of the whole narrative that "black people are so much more homophobic than everyone else." I don't think that's necessarily true. If you hang around mostly black people, you're gonna see more homophobic people who happen to be black. Even if you don't, if you look at the media, that's the image you're gonna see. Stuff like this video that try and make it seem like black people are unique in their homophobia. Go to a rural white town in the south or Midwest, you'll probably find toxic homophobia too. Go talk to recent black college millennials and you'll find folks who are more open-minded. There are different factors in play. Black people may say "ew" to your face. But everyone, mostly white people, will try to pass laws restricting your rights. Everyone's homophobic and I feel like folks try to make black people carry the full burden like we started that shit.

100% Agree, there is no proof at least empirically that black people are more inherently homophobic. In fact, I think homophobia is probably even across the board (in the USA).

I literally can't with this whole video though. I mean the whole documentary motif and the narration is hilarious. I mean these dudes should have known that something was up when they heard that whack ass song.

you're right... you don't need an experiment, it is so obvious in everything black dudes say and how they react to everything.

I agree with this as well, but we tend to be the ones most vocal about it and black religious institutions are dumb enough to have charters that speak openly against homosexuality. Take their tax exemption status and see how all of that shit quiets down immediately.

That's basically what it is,for some reason, the gay community seems to have a big hardon to make black people seem unique in there homophobia when in realty it's basicall equal distributed across the board. For me growing up I never left hated for being gay by black people I felt it from everybody.

If as a black man talking about homophobia that I experience at the hands of the black community, "what white people do" is not apart of the conversation. For me this deflection is beyond annoying as hell! Its as if to say because white people or other groups do it, lets talk about it as a whole society....NO. Let's stick to the subject and talk about it as it happens among black and brown folks. Tired of "what white folks do or don't do" being used as a benchmark.

Exactly, no one is saying only black people are homophobic that is a blatant misrepresentation of what is being said. Also black gay people are more likely to experience homophobia from other blacks than any other group. Also the point was made that white people legislate against lgbt rights well of course they do. In the USA they control the political and economic system, so they make the rules. The apologists also are ignoring the atrocious treatment of gay people in majority black countries like in the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa where blacks are in the driver's seat and make the laws.

That't not entirely true if you look at a lot of Homophobic black people there is this miscomputation of being gay as being a "white thing" which feeds into the whole idea that being gay is a thing that white people are forcing on the black community in order to in slave or emasculate and a whole bunch of other bullshit. In regards to the whole African county and Caribbean thing its complicated
John oliver did a whole thing about it and theres more out there on the subject, which is so depressing, but the bottom line is this you can not have a conversion about homophobia or anything else for that matter especially now a days without looking at everything we are not an separate community. I now a lot of time it feels like that but we are not and if we want to fight these things we need to look at all the cause not just the black one or the white ones

I don't think anyone is deflecting anything. We're critiquing two different parts. Yes, homophobia should be critiqued in the black community. But I have a problem when people try to paint this picture that we're the primary ones responsible for it and we're the cause of it. That ideology reinforces racism. When proposition 8 passed here in Cali in '08, the white gay community and pretty much every one else threw black people under the bus saying we were the cause of its passage because we showed up to the polls to elect Obama and voted in its favor. Turns out, those exit numbers for black folks voting in favor were highly inflated and we still weren't a large part of the California electorate anyway. And yet, you still had cable shows running critiques on how the black people caused all this. So that's my problem. That's not deflecting.

Um yes you can...who makes these rules up? We are and we do have separate communities all across the US. If I'm talking about the anti-homosexual sentiments I experienced in 8th grade by BLACK boys, "what white folks do" has nothing to do with this particular conversation. You are making a decision to add "well white people do it to" as a way to deflect and admonish responsibility and accountability from black people.

This is the exact same thing white folks and cop apologist do when talking about police killing a black person..."well what about black on black crime?" what about it? That has nothing to do with the conversation.

For ME it is foolish to say that different ethnicities don't have distinct and unique cultures. There is a post right now on the boards about men being "suspect". This term (along with DL) is unique to the black community as it relates to homosexuality. Stop Playing dude.

    The interesting thing is...
There are numerous even hundreds or articles and videos of white people being homophobic or anti-homosexual...WHITE PEOPLE (the authors of articles and producers of the videos) don't say "well what about black on black homophobia?"

Sigh...you talking about an ignorant false narrative that happened back in 2008 which has since been called out for being false...by the white MSM. This same white lib MSM that has pics and stories up every week of anti-gay white pastors and pics up of white gay bashers? Before I go to far...

The video presented is about black people and homophobia...if the go to response for this video is "what white people do" that is a problem. More time has been spent on "what white folks do" instead of what the fuking black people DID? Seriously?

Homophobia is without a doubt more prevalent in the Black community. Especially when you look at it on the basis on the percentage of black people in the country.

The same argument made about police brutality, true white people face it too but black people are disproportionally affected by it. Same applies to homophobia.

You don't have to look any further than our media, athletics and our barbershops.

That's one example. But notice how none of those are labeled "white." When a black person is involved, they make sure to tell you the race. That represents a larger issue in itself.

This is not a deflection. It's a critique. The black-on-black crime analogy you brought up is not the same. White people bring it up because they don't want to discuss police brutality and the killing of unarmed black people. I'm bringing up the fact that black people aren't uniquely homophobic not because I don't want to talk about homophobia in the black community, but because I want to critique the racist implications of thinking the black community holds disproportionate responsibility. I talk about homophobia in the black community. I call folks out. But I don't sit here and feed into the racist narrative that we're worse at it than everyone else.

I am not saying what you just said. When you look at something as big and complicated as homophobia which cross all sort of barres wither you are Black, White, or Hispanic. you have to look at more then one angle, are some black people homophobic because there plane nasty yes they are, but some of then are homophobic because of there upbring or what they have been taught along the way. The video i upload talks about one aspect of the issue. And the words may be unique to American culture but not all of then.

And comparing the shootings of an armed black people to homophobia is not a good comparison simple for the fact one is targeting a specific group, while homophobia targets a more broad range of people.

I would love to see definitive evidence that black people are more homophobic than everyone else. Is there data other than anecdotes? I would love to do a regression analysis on that. I've been doing regressions all semester in my grad school classes.

Maybe I missed something...where in the video did it say "black people are the only ones who are homophobic?" If the subject is "black homophobia" why is "what white people do" in the discussion? Me personally I would go along with this argument if it zeroed in on white supremacy and the introduction of homophobia through religion during slavery.

This is crazy....let me start/have a conversation about black men's hair...nope I can't because you would want to talk about how hair is not unique to black people and white people have hair too. What?

Homophobic black people have all sorts of rationales and justifications for their bigotry. Some(the religious) use the Bible or the Qur'an, others use ideas like "homosexuality is white thing, black population reduction, it's 'un-African,' emasculating black men" etc, as their reasons. Secular blacks and Pan-Africanists trot out these false narratives to vilify gay black people especially, gay black men. That doesn't make them "misguided." These people are bigots plain and simple. Like it or not a majority of black people agree with these ideas to ignore that fact and misdirect the conversation by bring up white people's homophobic attitudes is not only dishonest it is dangerous. I can't and won't cosign such bullshit.

Sir. Just because a study hasn't been conducted for your benefit, that doesn't make my statement less true.

As a matter of fact, you have the burden to prove my assertion to be incorrect since I at least have the benefit of anecdotal evidence, you're coming with nothing but your opinion.

To me its not its part of the conversation as a whole, because who are counting among black people here are you just talking about skin color, where they grew up, or all the other factors that people say represent a race?

One of the first things he says in the video is "it's even worse in the black community." He then goes on to paint this narrative to support that view although he did somewhat state at the end that maybe his assumptions weren't entirely correct. That's where the critique comes from

It does not make your statement in more true either, and no he doesn't have to just like you don't have to prove it to him. This is a discussion on a message board between lay people not academics studying the effect of homophobia of the black community on the black community in general.

Your statement isn't definitively true because it isn't supported by objective fact. I have plenty of anecdotes. The vast majority of my black peers that I've met aren't homophobic. I haven't been ridiculed in a homophobic way by a black person since I was 13. And that person did that to everybody. So based on that same logic, I could say it's true that black people aren't homophobic at all. We both know it's more complicated than that.

We are talking about black homophobia so even if you're just talking about the USA there is plenty of polling and evidence that shows most black Americans have a negative attitude towards homosexuals and homosexuality.
