I don't have any qualms with him calling out churches for getting people to give their hard earned money with no questions asked for little or no benefit. The one thing I've learned is people don't often question things and when they do they don't ask the right questions. Some people need to be made to think about why they do things blindly like support the church.

 

Its all a crazy phenom. I cant say its a 'crazy blk ppl' thing tho. Its def a reflection of how minorities are blinded and willing to be a sheep as long as ev1 else is doin it

OMG this is painful to watch. He's acting like a child that got his hand caught in the cookie jar. That's why then I give what I have and don't worry about the rest. It's suppose to be your offering to the lord anyway, not the pastor.

 

I know people who drive passed 15 smaller churches of the same denomination to go to a mega church just to say they go to Pastor TD Olsen Dollar's Greater Crystal Cathedral of Life Building Prosperity. They have churches commutes just like people have job commutes.

I just don't get it. Those churches...uhm ministries spend too much money on themselves instead of helping people in the community.

 

Yes I know God doesn't need anything from us, but he does ask that we give from our hearts so I do when I can, but many pastors knowingly ask (or outright demand) things from the poor to spend it of unnecessary things and its disheartening to say the least..Thanks for sharing though!

 

This is gross and disgusting. I wonder how he (and other pastors in the exact same situation) sleep at night.

THANK YOU!!!! How people don't realize thithing (or however the f#$k you spell it) started as a means of funding the church is beyond me. It has NOTHING to do with "Giving Tha LAWD 10% of yo earnings), it's ALWAYS been a source of income for the church. In the (very) beginning I'm sure it went to what it was meant to go to, supplies and maintenance/upkeep of the church/church grounds, paying the undertaker and grave diggers, etc etc. As with anything run by Man, people began to realize that they could exploit the poor and ignorant and (probably really close to the start of thithing) the money started providing lavish lifestyles for those in charge. To keep the sheep giving their hard earned money they're told "The Lord requires 10% of your income" WTF does GOD need your money for?!!!

 

Well like you said it's supposed to help with the up keep of the church itself not lining the pockets of the ministers. There are passages describing how you should tithe so they didn't just pull it from thin air. It's suppose to be a prilevge not an obligation of burden to pay but a gesture of faith and a desire to see the church advance and grow but others take advantage of that. Anybody that reads and tries to have a personal relationship with God knows that he doesn't need our money and it is entirely optional for you to give from your heart, to be a cheerful giver. Only people that don't pay attention buy into all that other stuff...

Well yeah it depends on your beliefs, I was just saying there is biblical principles behind it.

 

Cosign. Religion is an obvious scam. It's the prefect scam really, because people pay money to support it, yet doesn't produce anything tangible or of value, it's legally protected by the state, and pays no taxes. The fact that most people can't see it for what it is shows just how gullible most people are.

 

Oh HELL yea! It's one of many brilliantly thought out plans that have successfully controlled the masses for eons and kept Mankind oblivious to whats really going on in the world. Religion, War, and Entertainment, the three greatest money making schemes in the world.

 

I understand how you guys feel about religion and trust me I'm not defending people like this guy trying to take advantage of people, I'm not oblivious to the facts of the world but let me point out that there is tangible things that come out of people that work together for a good cause. You take the good with the bad. I've said this before but there are plenty of good churches out there that take care of the homeless, provide clothing, food, and money for the needy all kinds of stuff! You don't have to believe in God to do great things with a church, I actually know of most people that do. I know you're just speaking your minds but please be alittle more respectful of others beliefs thanks!

 

I {personally} don't have an issue with religion per se. just religion that is used to justify hurting/suppressing/taking advantage of others. I think Cyrus' disdain for it is much deeper than mine as even he and I don't see eye to eye on many things, however I 100% agree with him when it comes to Abrahamic Practices. Not to turn this into a debate on religious beliefs, as there are other threads out for that, but just because a good person is involved in a Christian/Islamic/Judaic faith doesn't mean that the practice is absolved of it's misgivings. That's like saying a drug dealer is absolved of his/her crimes because they give out free turkeys to the community at Thanksgiving. I apologize to you if you feel as though I disrespected you practice in anyway, as it wasn't meant to come across as such, however I stand by my convictions that it is a mind control scheme. You are free to practice your beliefs as you wish, as am I. but just as Im prepared to be called "Demon Worshiper" and be told Im going to hell for practicing vodun, then you should prepared prepared and thick skinned to deal with people commenting on the negative aspects of organized religion.

 

Thanks I appreciate it!, I wasn't trying to debate either I just felt like my points were being taken seriously (as I get that a lot as if I'm stupid for believing something you don't so I guess I may have overacted sorry lol) so I just wanted to explain my pov. I respect your opinion I think there's a lot of corruption in religion and other institutions as well, you can't throw the baby out with the bath water ya know?
